Mon, Sept 24th, 2001 Atari Teenage Riot Founder Member Carl Crack Has Died He was found in his Berlin apartment on September 6th. Little is known about the exact details of his death, "but it is believed there was a huge deterioration in his health tied to years of over abuse of alcohol and pills," reports NME.com. Crack, who had just turned 30 in May, had a history of mental illness. The band had taken a one year break to allow him time to seek psychiatric help. It is understood he and ATR mainman Alec Empire hadn't spoken in a year, but had been emailing each other recently. Atari Teenage Riot toured for Nine Inch Nails during the opening leg to the '99 Fragility tour in Europe. |

CARL CRACK RIP ATR founder found dead in apartment. 24.sep.01 Carl Crack, crazed mascot to indulgence and co-founder of Atari Teenage Riot is dead, PlayLouuder is saddened to report. The rapper was found in his Berlin home on September 6th. No exact cause for death is yet known, but it is believed that his continual alcohol and drug use were the main factors. Crack had a long history of mental illness, and was last year arrested after he allegedly lashed out at an air stewardess and "went crazy" during a flight to the UK. He was subsequently put into psychiatric care, and later took a break from ATR to concentrate on regaining his mental health. He and ATR mainman had not spoken for nearly a year, according to friends of the band, but had recently been communicating via e-mail. Carl Crack was fucking cool. Wow. He (and Atari Teenage Riot) was/is really good. I saw them when they opened for Beck in 1997. They were great. My ears hurt for a day lol but it was still great. First show with a techno/hardcore band included. I'll never forget it. You rocked Carl... |
