I really can't understand why, it's actually rather depressing. But almost all his music, bar a few tracks, just bores me! Maybe it's time to move on, I guess.
I'm actually getting into early 70's electronic music, which I find a lot more interesting, as well as some 20th century classical music, and Autechre becomes more and more interesting for me (I used to hate it)
Is anyone else having the same problem? Maybe it's because he hasn't made anything for a while, I dunno...his records just do it for me anymore; I find them boring.

I've been like that recently with Squarepusher, though I took a listen to Budakhan Mindphone earlier in the week and quite enjoyed it, so perhaps it's not a permanent thing.
I've noticed some RDJ falling further down my chart of late, namely I Care Because You Do, Classic, Donkey Rhubarb and the Ventolin EPs.
As time goes on, what once seemed really good appears less so as your music collection grows.

dunno... maybe just let him be for a couple of weeks/months, then try to re-listen to it...
there was the album by NIN, The Downward Spiral, which i found had gone 'stale' after having listening to it so much. i listened to it some weeks ago and it just didn't feel the same at all.
but yesterday i relistened to it and i found the emotions back again...
there is also hard normal daddy by >[] which i don't listen to anymore though it is good, and some other albums. it is sad... like, you still want to like the music but the music doesn't like you anymore...

I've got quite heavily back into Aphex,I've gone way off SQ.
I've gone to more Guitar stuff,Sigu Ros,Radiohead, pink floyd.
It happens to everyone. At one point I totally lost faith in Electronica, but shit happens. Its just a matter how you feel during a certain period of time.

I would have to say Richard comes in THIRD behind ALOT of Ae and ALOT of BoC....
I listen to SAW II more than anything lately, I listened to Druqks so much I burned myself out on it...So its been a couple months since i listened to that.
( I still love the red haired bugger though )

I have roughly 200+ cds' and I only ever feel like listening to 2 or 3. but that 2 or 3 changes every day and I often find myself cycling right through my collection within the month, just go with what you feel like listening to, don't force yourself to listen to anything, just wait until you want to...

yeah i can't say afx tops my idm list anymore either. he has to come up with something entirely new to satisfy me, i guess.
that said, i've been listening to 26 mixes for cash for the past week now and it makes me very very happy. it's lightheartedness is a nice contrast to draft 7.30's seriousness. it's a shame that afx's best stuff in years should be a remix cd, though. full of 'dated' sounds at that ;)

are you being naive?
ofcourse it can.
especially electronic music, which has been progressing quite fast the last 20 years or so.
I think his production on his older stuff sounds flat, as do the sounds he uses.
I mean, ae's older stuff has way too much reverb going on - which can make it sound kind of old too. but ae still keep me interested because of the quality of sounds they've used.
also would say they were more interesting structurally - but thats a different discussion.

i'd say autechre doesn't sound too dated because they didn't ride the acid wave. well, music-wise anyway :D. they used their own sounds which is why even incunabula sounds exciting to this day.

i don't really think 'good' music ever sounds dated if put back in context
that said i'm sorry but for me there's many old stuff by "idm stars..." that i think sounds more fresh simply because electronic music now is a lot of the same, i find ABB3 to be more fresh than cometodaddy, amber more than ep7, etc...

wtf is all this?!? You can get too much of a good thing if you listen to it constantly and it will lose it's impact, but you can return to it later after abstinance and get knocked out by it again and again. My opinion is that you're narrow minded if you ignore older stuff just cos of the stigma of 'out of date'. If you geninely don't like it any more, fine, your loss, if it's just a phase, don't give up on it so easily. And if you're just trying to be trendy with what you convince yourself you like, well fuck off. I think I'll just continue to listen to the stuff I like, old or new. Move on, come back later.

same thing with me. i always cycle through my cd collection. sometimes i'll find albums that i bought a month ago and didn't give much thought about, then i'll listen to them and realize they're genius. i always seem to come back to aphex twin though. "dated" is a pretty superficial term to use around this type of music. nothings too old or out of date for me.

I still like a little of Druqks, but all this new (and old) music I'm discovering has opened my eyes a little.
I've also come to realise that synth "oldies" make some really exciting music indeed. Try out Vangelis' "Heaven and Hell"...amazing stuff.
I know what you mean about getting tired of CD's...but I must agree with qrter, I PERSONALLY find Aphex Twin a little flat and out of date. Ah well.

even dated music can still be beautifull and brilliant. druqks to me was his least innovative album, the one that sounded like a mix of everything he had done to date, whereas all the other seemed to follow a brand new theme throughout.. (come to daddy - industrial, classics - techno etc)..
aphex always sounds fresh to me, and certainly whoops BoCs tedious stuck in a rut arse (btw i like them too really, but they could do with progressing their sound a little, theres only so much i can take)
i cant beleive someone can actually hate incunabula! i mean.. Hate???
even to me it sounds dated now (it is you see), but its still absolutely amazing.. those melodies... that wrapped in cotton wool, floating on a cloud lushness thruout-- its sublime.. leave it for a bit, then put it back on when u suddenly get the urge to hear it.. trust me, that time will come
