im watching Nelly and justin timberlake...one more stupid
video...
and i think i understood something.
i think all that rap "i call it shit" industry, is based on
a classic usa problem : the lack of intelligent laws.
i mean you cant drink until youre 21, its very critisized if
you have sex unde that stupid 21 majority, or i guess so.
with that background, i kinda and i said KINDA understand
why its so popular in the states : "look at me, i have money
from nowhere, i can fuck bitches coz im almost 21, and look,
look i have absolute vodka waaaaaaa ! and the violence goes
with it too of course, coz nobody is violent in the usa
(says CNN) so it must be exciting to act like a nerd
there...
but the movement is meaningless and very annoying when you
live in europe, coz its only pure imitation of the US style.
and that makes it so stupid..
what do you think 'bout it
btw when i talk about rap, you can say im bored to death :)
and waiting for my weed to come
yo yo yo yo im a green smoker so put on the accelerator...
:/

nelly + justin = pop ,....not even rap.

they suck dog-ballz.

Do you consider rap and hip hop the same? I hope not,.there
are intelligent mc's out there that you'll prolly never
hear,.when checking out MTV.

I live in Holland,.come over here and we'll have a party

yeah i hate it when people say all rap and hiphop is bad,
there are some great songs out there but the vast vast
majority are shite so they are very hard to find.....

yea.. though nelly (as evidenced by the presence of j.
timberlake in the song and video) isn't truly a real rapper
though.. he's more like a pop star dressed as a rapper..
he's hip-pop

I can honestly say that the majority of the "rap" scene is
complete crap. Since it's true stages in the late 80's, the
driver of the "rap bus" bailed out long ago and left all of
the passengers unsupervised while it has picked up speed and
gone out of control.....but every road has an
end.....Hopefully this one will end at a 50 ft thick wall of
steel.....the funny thing is, if you look at the back of the
bus, you'll see all of the clueless rap fans(mostly rich
white boys) dangling off of strings attached to the bumber
kinda like the whole tin can just got married thing.

As for Justin Timberlake...OH GOD KILL THIS WHITE BOY!!!!
for the record, I am white too....but clearly a different
shade of intellect. This boy(timberlake) comes complete
with a set of tits and the fakest of fake street accents.
Yeah, I guess growing up on the streets of the MICKEY MOUSE
CLUB must have been really hard...skrait up G.....whatever.
The only thing worse than the singers or false prophet
rappers...are the FANS!!!!
The only thing worse than a shitbag, is one who follows the
shitbag.
I'm outta here. peace to all my hommies down from day one!!
haha

Oh yeah, if you're in seek of good rap, turn of your TV.
Tribe Called Quest, Saul Williams, Herbaliser, or even some
well known trip-hoppists like Tricky....the list can go on
and on and deeper, much deeper.
I will end this with a very TRUE quote from the comedian,
Lewis Black.
"MTV is to music, what KFC is to chicken"

now I live in the states, dunno if you have heard of
KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken)...it's just a chain of fast
food restaurants who specialize in the mass manipulation of
chicken to make their chicken perfect for the consumers...

I'm ranting.....bye for now.

hheheh.. you're right on with that lewis black quote, i
couldn't agree more. there IS good hip-hop music to listen
to, just turn off your tv. i must admit that right now i
think hip-hop's going through a 2nd golden age. i feel
really lucky to be alive during the prime years of the
roots, black star, dead prez, j-live, common, pharoahe
monch, blackalicious, etc.

also, you're dead on with that summary of timberlake's
street cred! lol, when he starts talking with a "thug"
accent and collaborates with hip-hop emcees and producers
how can everyone just forget he was on the mickey mouse club
and has been in a cookie cutter teen pop band since the mid
90s?

"how can everyone just forget he was on the mickey mouse

"

Because it doesn't matter. Who cares what he has done in the
past? He has this cd out now, listen to it and decide if you
like it or not based on the music. Honestly... who cares if
he used to sing in a boyband. Some of our other musical
heroes might have been butchers, mailmen, officecleaners and
whatnot. Are those professions more 'credible'? Credible
enough for us to like them? He probably made alot of money
during his boyband-years and had an awesome time... what's
wrong with that? It's so unfair to judge a musician by
anything else than his music.

it does matter somewhat. this isn't a friendship, you can't
see music appreciation in the same terms; artists SHOULD be
measured against their past, that's partly what makes the
music so enjoyable and enriching.

i refer back to the previous timberlake thread; i like his
solo tunes (see my comments there) i just think it's funny
how we're supposed to take his new style seriously since
it's obviously just another gimmick.

what previous timberlake-thread? There have been a few ;-)

I was actually surprised to see you making fun of
justin timberlake, since you're always trying to tell us to
be openminded.

But anyway, my point is: i tend to listen to music with my
ears, and as ehr... "not-prejudiced" (there probably exists
a better word) as possible. I would say in friendship it's
more important to know something about your friend's
background... but with music?! It's totally irrelevant.

I know you said you like his solo-stuff.... but there are
probably millions of people out there who'd also like it if
this was his debut-cd... but now they dislike it
because of his past.

" just think it's funny how we're supposed to take his
new style seriously since it's obviously just another
gimmick.
"

Well who says we are supposed to take it seriously :-) Maybe
he's just having a bit of fun with this new image of his.
That's what it looks like to me... but either way, i don't
care about his accent, clothing or the type of people he
hangs around with. Just the music.

SURROUNDED....I have listened to it. I work in a music
store and am force fed so much crap all day. I agree that
people do change and I am always willing to give that
chance, as I am an open minded person.
Although, when an image is completely altered overnight, one
can only correctly assume that another gimmic has just been
applied for the sake of a buck.
Are you seriously telling me that you really dig that new
piece of corporate bait? If you do dig it, then may I
suggest some other stuff like Nickelodeon's Mickey Mouse
Club, New Kids on the Block, George Bush, or even a rope to
hang yourself with?

You had some good points but, in my opinion, ruined all
credibility using Justin Timberlake's overnight MTV
makeover.

"but either way, i don't
care about his accent, clothing or the type of people he

and the music will set you free.....or put you in a
hole...listen at your own risk. Oh yeah....to save you the
humiliation, you should remove the "kick me" sign that
someone put on you back. I'm sure someone was "just trying
to have a bit of fun"

again - i just do not care about an artists image. I
don't watch MTV alot anyway... if i hadn't read it on this
messageboard, i wouldn't even have known the guy used to be
in another band. I have noticed that some of the songs that
i think sound pretty good, seem to ruin my credibility on
here ;-)

But what can i do about it? :-p I just saw that "like i love
you" song a couple of times, and i liked it. It reminded me
of old michael jackson-stuff, when he still knew how to
write a good song. I'm not going to pretend i don't like it
just because i discovered he used to sing in a band i don't
like (because i don't like 'n sync's music much).

But if you insist to talk about image... do you really think
the image he had in 'n sync was really him? The justin you
saw there was most likely just his manager speaking. Maybe
now that he's gone solo he can show his true face... or
maybe not... i don't know and i don't care :-p

I guess one of the problems with the commercial rappers is
that sure, they might have actually lived the street
lifestyle at one point...gang-bangin and slingin' crack,
while big pimpin' at the same time. But when they achieve
millions of "bling bling" and still rap about how they're
still doing the same thing.....they tend to lose their
street credibility. While they're shacked up in their
hollywood mansions and try to convince me that they're still
true to the streets and still partake in that
lifestyle...that's just a load of crap that any mindless
brat would buy into.
It's rediculous and is an insult. ASnyone willing to buy
into an insult directed at themselves is an ass.

hm... well i can't really be bothered to look up your
opinion...

"about him being on the mickey mouse club and NOW talking

"

...also because i haven't seen or read any recent interviews
with the guy, so i don't really know how he's been acting
lately :-) (which is actually also kind of the point i'm
trying to make :-p).

You're right, image is little in itself....but when the
music is the image, it cannot be ignored. If you honestly
think that what you've heard from this heep of plastic is
genuine and well written, then enjoy.
Before I criticize something like this, I always shield
out the image, because you are right, the music is more
important. So I can honestly say that I have heard the
music. But when I reach into the inards of it, I cannot
feel anything due to its hollowness. It's like a hollow
chocolate easter bunny...dig? or shall I say, a hollow
white chocolate easter bunny.

"So I can honestly say that I have heard the music."

well, in that case it all comes down to personal taste and
preferences :-) I like the song and you don't... nothing
wrong with that. (i still don't see what george bush had to
do with any of this though ;-))
