bleak.

"Humm wherre else can we go, what new grround can we
brreak", seems to be the main motivation.

hasn't that always been the main motivation of idm-artists?
I believe the philosophy of Warp was always to release music
that was "different".... they worked that way 10 years ago,
and they still do today.

And so far the recent idm-releases i've heard haven't been
dissapointing to me...

I think actually noone thinks in terms "how can we innovate,
or break new ground" - most people just want to evolve
within their own musicmaking.. or just make stuff that is
better than the last stuff, which mostly involves evolving
in some way or other..

worrying about "the future" of any genre is pretty
pointless, imo.

something new will come along.

we'll see.

isnt that the case with EVERY genre?

i cant believe saw1 was produced 1985-1992, it still sounds
like the future of music 12 years later

"

i do not think that will ever happen. The possibilities for
making music are litterally endless.

Music always goes in circles--it eats up its past to create
its future. Just like me.

offline Anus_Presley on 2003-02-21 08:50 [#00564640]

but arrtists arre trrying to do it within the same
boundarries, its not new grround its old grround rre-hashed.
i mean no matterr what anyone one does with an acoustic
guitarr it will not have been done beforre, then comes the
electrric guitarr and effects pedels, then came keyboarrds,
then came computerr music, maybe we need someone to come and
do something totally differrent on a computerr, like the
leap frrom acoutic to electrric, no doubt it will happen, so
maybe the futurre aint bleak.

that's true. But still there always seem to appear new
artists and albums that find there own interpretation of the
past to create something beautiful again.

I can't imagine where IDM can go after Confield,
seriously... Draft isn't a step forward AT ALL, and nobody
else is doing anything that's as radical and listenable as
that one... Squarepusher hit a creative brick wall, Geogaddi
didn't seem to be as well received as MHTRTC... IDM seems to
have stagnated, all the big guns aren't doing anything
revolutionary.

I really want to hear Mike P's new one...

no of course they didn't but it isn't as far or remarkable
as anyone makes out - it's just working along a seam of
music that hasn't had any mainstream attention. of course
it's an original piece of work and soe of it is good - just
be aware that there is a canon of history behind it and
people have been making sophisticatred abstracted electronic
music for the past 100 or so years

dude

I just get tired of you poking fun at me all the time.

Seriously, or jokingly.

And seeing the past experiances we have, I find it hard to
take that its all in good fun.

Anyone else could say that, and id laugh, cause I know they
are just messing around.

But you seem to do it in such pure spite.

And yes, I do take it seriously, because after 8 months of
taunting, its no longer funny. Not that it even was to begin
with.
