? bout file transfering

If you want to transfer files from one computer to another
computer, can you simply burn them onto a cd? The cd burner
software has a "data cd" option (plus audio option), well I
wonder if, when burned, it will be TRANSFERABLE again to the
other computer or just on there permanently... I'm stupid.
(these files are not mp3's or wav's, they're .it and maybe
some other types as well.) I guess the only way is to try
it. I bought a pack of 40 3.5 inch hard drive disks and
found they only hold about 1.5 (meg?) each so they're almost
useless even if zipped.

As long as you "close" or "finish" the disc, you should be
able to use it just as a normal cd-rom.

You can buy CDR's thats what you have and you used to burn
CDS for music. Most people use them to transfer data as
well, but you can only take the stuff off and copy it once
you burn it as a data CD. So you can reuse that same info
over and over.

What youd want it CDRR-W's thats rewritable CDS. You can
obviously rewrite them. Its good for that stuff. I have
those and a Zip drive... 100MB disks and lots of companies
and places haveem.. so its effiecient.

Just answer the mans question. YES. If you write something
to a CD-R, you can copy it to another computers harddrive.
As many times as you want. But, you can NOT re-write to a
CD-R once it has been finalized. Then comes in CD-RW.

Thanks all. I ended up buying "data cds" as opposed to
"audio cds", I guess you can't put data on audio ones. I
only found non rewritable ones, but I guess it shouldn't
matter since I only need to put in ON the cd once (then
transfer it to the new computer)

yes, there shouldn't be a problem with simple data cdr's. as
that's what they are for. some years ago it was also common
to use floppy disks and splitting the files, but now all the
files are so large...

strange how people are up all night on these kind of
problems -;) by the way i really appreciate that you want to
copy .it files. impulse tracker is quite an instrument.

Yeah, I really like it. I use it indirectly though I guess,
because I use "Modplug tracker", but it uses the .it format
and almost all the effects and data entry etc are the same.
It's pretty much the only music making software gizmo I've
ever used, I may check out fruity loops on my new computer,
another nice free sound organizer I hear.

if i may ask, can i listen to some sound from you?

M.........mM(mMm)Mm.........M on 2001-09-26 04:56 [#00036655]

Sure, do you make stuff with the program and can I hear it
too? Perhaps we can remix eachother's stuff someday or
something. www.mp3.com/artificialselection

That's strange, they sell them labled seperately as
specifically "audio" or "data"... probably just to confuse
me. There COULD be a reason, maybe they are slightly more
efficient at data storing or something.

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 05:03 [#00036664]

i'm sorry, just one more after reflex was quicker than
me...

there are audio cdr's for cd recorder's, aren't they there?

in .de the are more expensive because there's a tax for
music copyright (the gema) on it...

sorry, i don't wanna confuse you, data cdr's will of course
go fine with both audio and plain files on a computer.

i am the robot (oh, god i gotta go sleep)
