Warp - The good times

I feel that Warp isnt what it used to be to me. In
1999-2000 I bought nearly everything htey released but then
the quality broke away. Releases like V.L.A.D. or Mercedes
Bently really suck and Aphex leaves the label, they dropped
Plone and they put out a lot of full priced mini albums.
Do you feel the same way ?
What do you think when warp had its best time ?

I know what you mean, but i don't have much of an opinion,
forr me its bands orr arrtists that matterr.

the label used to put out non-stop great tunes, now its any
"trying to be different" band that they sign :0(

I only got into this stuff in late 2001, so I don't remember
the ''good old days''... but my favorite IDM releases were
all from 2001. Drukqs, Confield, Double Figure, Go
Plastic... great stuff. My favorite year, looking back.

well, i'm very unsure on beans.
saw him live and i was really disappointed.
i got the morvern caller soundtrack. i liked that.
i have almost everything they released in the last couple of
years.
in fact. everything. except beans.
its still my fave label ever.
a mark of quality.

i agree with ophecks aside from the plaid since they arent
my cup of tea(i dont like tea much anyways, dont know why I
used that analogy)

but anti pop consortium was pretty good, prefuse 73 was
great too and I like the satanstornade album as wlel but
dyks kinda sucked, gantz graf was great.

I like Brothomstates ( qtio ) very well, but it seems there
will be no releases from him anymore... haven't heard a
thing in ages...

And what is the new label called Richard James and Tom
Jenkinson allegedly started?

I mean stuff like EP7 or Rest proof Clockwork, Warp 10+3
Sampler, Music is rotted one note, maximum priest EP,
Broadcast, Plone or even Jimi Tenor.
I adore all of these. Beans / APC is fine with me but Im
nearly never in the mood for it ;(

There will be a new BStates Album this year ! You can hear a
bit of it on the Warp Pool Mix. Vimo and Skje are some of
my alltime favs.

Wow that will be something to look out for! But i'm also
wondering, i heard rumors about Richard leaving Warp, when
is this all supposed to be happening? He's still releasing
an album on Warp...

i somewhat agree.

but who the hell is vlad? and mercedes bently?

and where does it officially say that aphex dropped the
label? that's what everyone said when drukqs came out.

Im pretty sure that he put out Druqks to fulfill his
contract. 26 is his last release on Warp.

V.L.A.D had only one 12" and they sounded like old school
computer games. Hexstatic & Bodenstandig 2000 did all this
before and a hundret times better. The other records full
title is "Mercedes Bently vs Versace Armani" by Maxximus J
or something. Its a super awful Speed Garage 12". So you
see, you didnt missed anything !

I don't really know if Warp are any better or any worse.
I've only known about them for the past 2 years, the first
of which was spent accumulating lots of good stuff that had
already been released, so it wouldn't be surprising if I
perceived that the quantity of good new stuff had fallen.

Yes, I used to listen to Warp a whole lot back in the day. I
have a sinus infection right now, and Im getting lots of
smell memories from the time of my last sinus infection.
Those were the days I was into Warp. Ah.. good times.

vlad is cool. never heard of mercedes bently, dont want to
either now. warp used to be better, but who knows? might get
back to form. they need more red snapper! was listening to
looper scooper earlier, thats the sort of stuff warp need
more of as well as heavy breakbeats
