entrikate on 2001-09-25 04:13 [#00036072]

autechre - confield.

-a from --- on 2001-09-25 04:49 [#00036081]

Robert Rich/Brian Lustmord - "Stalker"

It's a dark ambient album, extremely good. In my book it
comes second to Selected Ambient Works Vol. II

fluffy bunny from 98 on 2001-09-25 06:38 [#00036096]

naw man .. KEMISTRY & STORM Dj Kicks .. makes photek look
quite bare!!

`teapot. from bwisbane on 2001-09-25 07:13 [#00036103]

nin : further down the spiral
nin : fixed
and confield of course...

i heard a rap/hip hop group called cLOUDEAD the other day,
they were good, very dark and quiet scary...

M.........mM(mMm)Mm.........M on 2001-09-25 07:31 [#00036108]

Get Front Line Assembly's "Flavour of the Weak". It stands
out from all their other material as really interesting
aurally and it's also their scariest the beats are actually
scary instead of seeming pretending. And some of the lyrics
are actually good, definately as opposed to some of their
other albums. And download's "the eyes of stanley pain".
Well these have drum and they have bass at least.

Baron Von picklefoot from The Baron got a DSL line Woo hoo on 2001-09-25 07:34 [#00036110]

Thanks all I got tons of Photek good stuff,cLOUDEADis
amazing they are a side project of Anticon,Sole and dose
one!THE BARON HAS SPOKEN!1

fluffy bunny from 98 on 2001-09-25 07:51 [#00036116]

not meaning to discredit photek -- cause he is a man of
sorts -- but I think Kemistry and Storm still very much fits
the bill.

I would concede that it is on the rather industrial side of
Drum n Bass .. but still very much DnB especially
considering such offerings as NIN & Confield : no offence

what i mean...

rodney parade from Cambridge on 2001-09-25 14:11 [#00036234]

Anything on Ambush Records is a must.
DJ Scud is particulalry scary - he did a track with a bloke
called Christophe Frangelli called Bodysnatcher which is
well worth tracking down.

`teapot. on 2001-09-25 14:28 [#00036238]

im not into drum and bass, so i just said what albums i
thought fit into the scary catagory *shrugs* doesn't matter
to much if i go outside the genre does it

tune*mx on 2001-09-25 15:55 [#00036253]

How about Panacea? He will scare the shit out of you!

chris from berlin on 2001-09-25 17:40 [#00036270]

you should really check out ambush... (e.g. dj scud)
panacea has gotten a bit strangely numb with the time...
also try the following:
christoph fringeli, dan hekate, coven h,
kovert, venetian snares, some somatic responses is
drum'n'bass and for more towards the 'real' haha dnb
direction of course konflict (especially their track
'messiah') under their various synonyms (rob data & kemal,
paranoid user) also try to find dj hidden, from france come
'the timestretchers' which are pretty spooky as well, maybe
you'd also enjoy some dhr / alec empire stuff (although that
doesn't really go o.k. with my conscious now)

another man you should really check out is christoph de
babalon, he did an awesome split on fat cat recs with kid
6o6 last year (but it's still avail. imo)

i also think bad company )E|3( are pretty sinister
sometimes, but your first check should definitely be ambush,
subversion, praxis records...

(some of the other www.position-chrome.com stuff (panacea's
label) is really good, i like disorder, the redeemer and
current value)

good luck,

c.

Yes, Kemistry & Storm is the shit! Or even DJ dara

Get the SOURCE DIRECT album "Exorcise the demons"
Very Very DAAAAARK!!!!

fOrTkNoX from analog soundscape on 2001-09-25 20:28 [#00036297]

try....makein your own dark sounds.....

dozer on 2001-09-25 20:34 [#00036298]

Ed Rush & Optical: Wormhole LP. also check out their "12's:
Medicine/Punchbag , Satellites/Zardoz, Gas Mask/Bacteria on
the net.

Stone from San Antonio, Hell, U.S.A. on 2001-09-25 23:03 [#00036397]

Oh God yes Sido. Source Direct makes some very dark, nice
and scary d 'n b.

I also had a mix tape by some guys named D.J. Snuggles and
Slak...it's a great little tape, and has my favorite d'n b
track ever...unfortunately the tracks aren't labeled so I
have no clue what the song is called.

But it's pretty good, dark techstep-type stuff. You can get
it here:

Position Chrome records

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 02:17 [#00036592]

dear baron,

once again i recommend you to check www.position-chrome.com

and c8.com
which is the place to satisfy all your dark needs

if you DO favour the sinister sides of breaks you _should_
get to know ambush records....

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 02:18 [#00036593]

oops. i forgot:

THE CHRISTIAN HAS SPOKEN!!!

Loogie on 2001-09-26 02:27 [#00036598]

I've never really got to grips with autechre. Is confield
"dark"? coz maybe I might like it...

I'm not too interested in abstract dischordant noodlings, so
what is the best autechre stuff to try? (I already have
basscadet ep)

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 02:49 [#00036621]

go for
anti ep (statement against criminal justice bill) djarum,
lost, flutter
anvil vapre (second bad vilbel, second scout, second scepe,
second peng

just to suit yr taste then,
but i personally like some tracks off 'amber', 'cichlisuite'
and 'garbage' etc

i think confield is the worst and therefore not a good
introduction to ae

loogie on 2001-09-26 03:07 [#00036624]

OK, cool.
Whats with all the "second" tracks?

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 03:10 [#00036625]

it's a 'concept' kind of thing i guess,
a cool ep they did. very dark indeed.
chris cunningham even did a video for 'second bad vilbel'

maybe you find the record still somewhere..

Loogie on 2001-09-26 03:15 [#00036626]

Those "second" tracks are all on anvil vapre?

I have just found an AE track on a compilation I have...
it's called laughing quarter and it's cool!

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 03:21 [#00036630]

from yr description i wouldn't think you'd like these.
sorry, germans are fucking prejudiced ;)

the ep is called 'envane'
tracks are all 'quarters': goz, latent, laughing & draun.

they've been released as the 'single' to an album called
'chiastic slide'

fluffy bunny on 2001-09-26 04:27 [#00036649]

envane is pretty cool [aside: it wouldn't be saying - in
vain? - just a random thought]

latter confield could perhaps be depicted as dark ...
although it wouldn't be the first description that would
come to mind. To me it is really refreshing -

chris from u!l73q on 2001-09-26 04:33 [#00036651]

it is? to me too, but i don't know how to explain this to
somebody who doesn't know the other ae stuff. i feel like
seing them play live everytime i hear the confield.
maybe there's a phase now where all the artist's like ae,
rdj or squarepusher reduce to what only they can do,
it results in some strange, for the unprepared listener
inaccessible experience. i like it though, it doesn't wanna
come along as single tracks to me. it's like they
broadcasted a live session...

(i got a bit of a conscious now, because what has that to do
with dark & scary drum'n'bass)

anyways autechre have done some very lively music

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-09-26 05:18 [#00036668]

check venetian snares- "befriend a child killer"..

i would say that parts of confield are pretty dark..the
track "bine" especially

although its not really drum n bass, squarepusher's "music
is rotted one note" seems very dark and scary to me..
especially the track "circular flexing"..very creepy. its
almost like being lost in the forset at night with strange
animals howling in the darkness around you.

Captain Beefheart on 2001-09-26 05:23 [#00036670]

It's not really scary, but U.N.K.L.E.'s "Guns Blazing."

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-09-26 09:14 [#00036695]

Keltech (Critical Adjustment) -> dark drum&bass!!!

fluffy bunny on 2001-09-26 11:58 [#00036713]

Metalheadz : Platinum Breakz

??

Not consistently dark .. but has some nice pieces here and
there - Goldie before he started chucking pies

don't fuck with me! on 2001-09-26 14:15 [#00036755]

kemistry and storm(???), ed rush and optical(???),blah blah
blah blah.
you lot are pricks.
scary drum and bass??? no i don't think so......more scary
bass and drums.
fuck all that bollox with fat basslines - find drum and bass
that represents the genre with respect to what it is.
check out paradox - has done various stuff on various labels
such as reinforced, partisan, ninebar, etc.....
but please do remember...
don't fuck with me!

i want to fuck you like an animal on 2001-09-26 14:46 [#00036763]

you certainly know your stuff.

kemistry and storm etc.. , although perhaps not consistently
dark - i feel can be described dark. maybe not scarry. so
what?

fOrTkNoX from ANALOG IS KEY... on 2001-09-26 15:14 [#00036770]

Selected Ambient Works

antangonist on 2001-09-26 15:53 [#00036785]

bet the cd is only worthy of cleaning my rectum when i'm
ill.

fluffy bunny on 2001-09-26 15:57 [#00036788]

and even then it has its considerable shortcomings!

fluffy bunny on 2001-09-26 16:16 [#00036799]

i don't mean to be bitch, but i swear i chose that name
first. how long have you been here?

Loogie from UK on 2001-09-27 00:08 [#00036976]

As for drum and bass I like:
Dillinja (although his new album is poor)
Doc Scott
Gang Related

doc scott can be quite dark

Organ Grinder from from my own little phuqed up world on 2001-09-27 00:23 [#00036996]

Squarepusher has written some VERY dark material --
"Hardcore Obelisk" from the Red Hot Car EP, "Ruin" from
Music is Rotted One Note.

Brothomstates' "Qtio" is sorta creepy too....

BaRON, check out Throbbing Gristle's "20 Jazz Funk Greats"
or "First Annual Report." All of their music is quite
creepy.

"Timesteps" by Walter Carlos off the Clockwork Orange
soundtrack is quite creepy too........ i wish i could find
more stuff by him.

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-09-27 02:22 [#00037051]

the whole cd isnt drum n bass but i'd say dj spooky vs the
freight elevator quartet
"file under futurism" is quite dark...almost like funeral
music with frentic beats
also, though not really drum n bass, fsol's "dead cities" is
one of the more dark, frightening albums i've heard...

"i killed a man...a man that looked like me"

Jaffa Kid from UK on 2001-09-27 03:48 [#00037057]
