tobacco advertising is now banned in the UK with the
exception of motor racing. errr, why?

bernie ecclestone's donation clearly had something to do
with the deferral (for 3 years?) within motor racing.
bullshit.

Of course his donation to the Labour party has nothing to do
with Labour prime minister Anthony Blair's spinelessness!

australians are the biggest smokers, and drinkers in the
world. so obviously is hasn't made that much difference :)

also, they continue to piss all over everyone (in
particular england) at cricket, tennis, rugby, and now
football. how embarassing :o/

i must smoke more! :D

to slightly hijack your thread with what should have been an
aside in my previous post: email me your postal address,
dobbin, and I'll send you a CD of my 2 new 'eps'. All I ask
in return in your pantomime head and a dancing goat

I didn't actually say that, now did I... I said that both
should be outlawed, not that outlawing tobacco advertising
would eliminate smoking... but, allowing tobacco companies
to advertise isn't helping the cause... Tobacco companies
target young people, sometimes people not even legal age...
so they get them young, and keep em... it should be BANNED
EVERYWHERE!!!! I thought it was banned here... although I
still see ads in magazines and stuff... I'm sure I saw one
the other day...

You were hallucinating on that special brown stuff your
mother slips into your bedtime cocoa, shortly before she
reads you an endearing Winnie the Pooh tale....100 aker wood
here we come.

God I need a cigarette.

I can't have one because I quit. And if I start again my
woman will have my balls on a plate with dipping sauce.

Are you allowed to chew tobacco? Or maybe you could get away
with smoking a briar pipe and telling exciting tales of the
seven seas?

no mr. funkmaster you didn't say that but no it shouldn't be
banned and this is why:

i don't think we should be banning advertising things that
aren't illegal. are you going to ban the advertising of
macdonalds hamburgers cause they make you fat and give you
heart disease? are you going to ban advertising of fast cars
cause people crash them and kill pedestrians on the road?
are you going to ban advertising alchohol because it causes
scirrosis of the liver? where do you stop this process?

people in a mature society have to have the intelligence to
make a choice. if you're going to patronise people to the
extent that we're not going to let them make a choice, then
you're on you're skating dodgy ground, especially as we are
supposed to live in a democracy.

Part lawyer, part comedian, eh?

No man, if I am going to take nicotine into my body, I'm
going to do it the satisfying way, by sucking that sweet
virginia cigarette flavor deep into my alveoli.

No chaw or pipe-puff will ever come close to that.

Fuck I better watch it or I'll be running out for a pack
after the old ball an chain falls asleep.

DO IT! proclaim your liberty! Slip her some ether and soon
you'll be lighting up a satisfying smoke and suddenly you'll
be able to philosophise better and it also makes you more
creative!

it should be banned... and that's my opinion... smoking
should be made illegal... because, unlike hamburgers and all
that which causes heart disease, I'm not killing anyone else
if I eat a hamburger... second hand smoke does effect me,
and I'd rather it not...

also, I'd say most people start smoking at young ages,
probably in high school... and, this is due mostly to peer
pressure... peer pressure has the tendency to override any
intelligent thought in a teenager a lot of the times...

AAAAAAAA get out of my brain. You know all the seductive
whispers of the Tobacco Demons.

I've been reading Junky by Burroughs and when he gets back
on the junk in New Orleans, it's so damn casual, like "hey
let's get some" and "okay".

Starting smoking again is like that... for ages it never
crosses your mind, then you're having a beer with a friend
and "hey let's get some smokes" and the next thing you know
you're drinking like a fish in the mistaken belief that it
will help flush the nicotine out of your system.

believe me brother, it doesn't end at teenagers. Take a look
around you and see the schumcks brainwashed by 'peer'
pressure.

Junky is a great book--and you're absolutely right about how
easy it is to slip back into those evil habits, I stopped
smoking October 2001, and hey presto! Around rolls january
2003 and I find myself saying "I'm going to buy a pack of
cigarettes" and there we are. Grrrimey!

shrug, I don't care... It's pretty clear that I did... I
responded to your point about if we ban smoking ads should
we ban ads for all other things which cause ailments, such
as hamburgers as you mentioned... also, I responded to your
point about how people should be intelligent enough to
choose themselves... there you have it...
