I made him something--he will love it, its very sweet!

And last weekend, I bought him Super Mario for his N64--he
likes it when the monkey takes Marios hat. ;)

I got her a card. We're having some problems at the moment,
so i didn't feel like getting her a big gift.

I don't think she got me anything.

I'd forgotten it was valentines day until I read this
thread. Obviously the postman hadn't been yet or I wouldn't
of been able to get out of the house ;)

whoever they like for a day, they where very thankful to me.

why should i got her on this day ? what's the thing behind
valentine ? the day of love ? what when she has her
birthday on this day ? it just makes no sense...

Well dude, doing something extra special for a girl can make
her feel fantastic and loved. I couldn't presume she had a
birthday on the same day tho as my mind reading powers are
failing me today.

The point of the day is to express extra love and make your
loved ones feel more loved. You can do this with a bit of
card or go that extra length. You don't need to be
commercial if you are creative.

Urm, yeah. I think you should always treat your loved one
(or ones) special. But one day go that extra mark and lay it
on thick. It just makes you feel extra nice...

I used to go very OTT on valentines day, flowers, cooking,
gifts, handmade cards etc. I don't really feel that strongly
about anyone anymore.

What, sad that I did or sad that I don't do that anymore?

Basically I broke up with someone I cared a lot about. I now
regret the amount of effort I put into the relationship as
with the benefit of hindsight I can see she didn't make even
a quarter of the effort I did.

There is a girl I like at the moment, but even if we get
together, I can't really see it working out. We're very
different despite a few shared interests.

Because of this I would feel that doing all the above would
be a waste of time, money and effort.

If how I feel about her changes and I feel there is some
chance of a future together I'd do it. The thing is, I'm
moving back to Wales later this year so anyone I started
going out with would be long distance which is something I'm
going to try to avoid from now on.

Mind you, the women back home are not to my taste, so
perhaps a Bristol las sis what I need.

no i meant it's sad that you don't do things like tha
anymore, although i do see why you don't want to put extra
effort into something that you don't think would be
reciprocated

i hope that some day you'll get to be like that again,
buying extravagant presents, cooking romantic candlelit
dinners, and maybe the occasional trip to venice

:)

i kinda get the feeling you're being jokey about it, but

and it is upsetting when little things like that aren't
appreciated by the one you're with

I am being jokey because I'm not upset about it, but it's
all true.

My best mate said to me (out of the blue)when we were at a
gig last weekend, "We're so unlike most people, it's going
to be hard to find a girls like us" We contented ourselves
with lots of vodka and lunatic dancing.

well, with things like this you have to be honest with
yourself - would you really be happy with a girl who is
(sorry to say this but) most like the rest of the early
adult female population, into pap like liberty x and stuff
like that

i dunno about you, but it would drive me crazy having to
listen to that shit!

there is prrof that there are women who are into alternative
music and such....there are women on this message board
(unless they're 50 year old fat guys, but taht's besides the
point)

there are female "us'es" out there...they've just gotta be
found mate

If you buy commercial crap then yes it is but that does not
stop you from using the day as an excuse to shower your
loved one with extra appreciation.

Oscilik:
Yes, the girl I like is into Drum and Bass and elcetro and
likes insects too. That's pretty much all we have in common
too. She's also quite immature despite being older than me.

I agree with Spikee- The commercialism of it is a bit gash,
but it is nice to remind your loved one of how you feel
about them.
