Chiastic Slide-wow!

I've just listened to this all the way through, after
eventually finding a copy in Tower Records (could find ANY
in loads of other shops I searched through...HMV, MVC,
etc..) and it shows a musical, tuneful and even slightly
jazzy side to Autechre I've never heard before! Especially
the second half of Cipater (amazing) and the first half of
Nuane. Most of the middle tracks are a little too repetitive
for me, but these two amazingly inspirational tracks more
than make for it...This CD proves Autechre to be both great
sound editors and amazing meldody and ryhthm creators,
imho.

love it
This weekend i was visiting an old friend, and we went for a
walk quite close to the sea... i could hear the waves, and
there was such a strong wind. It was not a sunny typical
beach day at all, it was cold and the sky was great and i
thought it was a very beautiful atmosphere.

And all this time in my head in could here the track
"recury" playing :-) It fitted so well with the moment. The
music describes that atmosphere so well...

Personally i could have lived without "hub", which is too
repetitive and boring for me, but i think all the other
tracks are great! Wonderful album with amazing artwork.

It's so repetitive... but so awesome.

It's kind of ''ugly'', dirty sounds and beats, but it's
beautiful like some dying wheezing machine. Yakkity yak.

The end of nuane is gorgeous. It's like nerve cell
firecrackers shot into the air and leaving trails of pitched
static.

I'm appreciating this album more and more now... it's a
subtle piece of work.

Meh...Chiastic Slide is alright, I rarely listen to it
anymore. Their more recent releases are far better. It
still has some pretty good tunes tho. Like Tewe, for
example.

But don't you agree with my original post, about it showing
off Autechre as musicians more? I mean, listen to that
improvising at the end of Cipater-amazing. And those weird
and wonderful tunes in Nuane....I'll admit it doesn't have
such a good-bad track ratio as, say Confield however.

Good but not great. my beef is like evryone else's .. too
repetative. The highlight for me though is Pule, without a
doubt .. it's so gorgeous it's ridiculous. *said in the
Balki Bartokomoos voice* also the way it leads right into
nuane is great.

offline CS2x from London (United Kingdom) on 2003-02-12 15:55 [#00552749]
Points: 5079 Status: Lurker

Yeah, actually...it is rather annoyingly repetetive, true.
Especially Recury, which I truely WANT to love, but it just
goes on way too much! Same with many others.

Why couldn't they all had been as precise in length as
Cipater and Nuane? I suppose it's all opinion....But I would
have prefered it that way.

although i agree with the jazzy/funky nature, this album
perturbs me, and i love autechre. i'd say it's their worst
release; it seems halfassed. tewe is the only good song.

It sounds like they're trying to squeeze water out of stones
in 'rettic ac'. I agree with you on 'cipater', it sounds
like they paid more attention to the mix. The detail is
more melodic.

This album is just incredible. I never really got why Tri
Repetae++ was so loved - this is the real gem IMHO.

Perfect for an icy cold day - snow falling - and a warm tea
in your hand.

album kicks major ass... right up there with amber as my
favorite...

for me it's always been some sort of getting away from the
more acceptable sounds of tri repetae moving on to their
more recent stuff. (probably acceptable isn't the word I'm
supposed to use right here, but when I put on autechre
releases in the presence of friends, they find it weird
music, but aren't annoyed by their work up to chiastic).
Can't really explain it, but I consider it to be an
essential step in their evolution.
You should really listen to all their albums after one
another to know what I mean.
