My G3 Wallstreet PowerBook went to sleep last week and I haven't been able to wake it up since. Anyone here with a similar experience know what to do? I've tried macfixit.com and it's no use... |

i've tried plugging it up, taking the battery out, taking the cd drive out, pressing command,option,control,shift,power and all combinations of those. The best result I got was pressing command,control,fn,shift, power once, then after the space of .5 seconds again and holding it down, that got something to start spinning (hd or processor of fan, dunno) but nothing from the screen... keyboard doesn't respond at all (caps lock doesn't light up) |

Holy hell patrik! Thats not good at all Try the folks over at the forums. Get the battery back in, get the power addapter, plug it in a socket, and charge your battery (maybe 2 hours or so) and then try apple key, shift, and the powerbutton I hope you get that puppy working agian, mac troubleshooting is a bitch, but hang in there, it takes a lot of time but there is usually a solution to every problem with out taking it to the repair shop. Has it been very cold outside? or has your powerbook been in a damp area of your room? Temperature can wig out powerbooks. Most importantly, check the site, and check the support section, the people at the forum there are probubly the most relayable online tech support I hope you get it back up and running man |

I don?t know about the lombard, does it have a power-manager button (beside the screen port)? IF, have you pressed that one? |

i've got a wallstreet, like i said, not a lombard, lombard's the one with the bronze keyboard. well after more than half-an-hour (no joke!) of pressing buttons and literally shaking the fucker about i got it started. This was at about 11:30 pm last night, then I decided to shut down (as sleeping was what had caused the problem) and plug it in near my bed so i could work on my tunes in bed. Took another HOUR this time of the same random procedure to get it running again. Now I've just kept it on. Going to check it now. |

Also, fan cooling issues have been known to exist on older powerbooks! Now that I think of it, my aunt had a same sounding problem, she took her mac to a certified apple repair shop and they installed a new ac charger adapter which the new apple laptops have... The new chargers looks like a silver coated cable which runs into this white/silver circular looking oval with the apple logo on top, does this sound like the same charger you have? When your laptop was asleep and could not wake up... was it hot to the touch? If it was really hot you might want to take it to a shop, because some wallstreet series laptops have been reported to actually melt the fan |

it might be the power connector, you know, inside the machine or outside the machine the battery might just be dead, and when you're trying to use the power adapter, if the connections are fucked, you're not gonna get a dicky bird out of it i'd advise taking it to your nearest apple store, but they charge £30 odd pound just to have a look at the fucker :( |

it's definitely something to do with some faulty connection inside the machine and/or a crapped-out power adapter. i'm gonna take it to my nearest apple store and get it fixed for free, seeing as i work there (no kidding! potzbits.de, I'm working on the website) I just knowing knowing about the technical side of macs. I've been sick since Saturday so haven't been at work but I'll bring it to work with me on Friday and get it sorted. Seeing as Friday's my birthday my boss ought to fix it properly! :-) Oh, and thanks for YOUR help guys!!! |

ok it's definitely dead now :-((((((( repair would cost over EUR 600 as logic board is kaput and you can get the same model off ebay for about that price, so fuck it. gonna sell it to the store for EUR200 and use that towards a G4 iBook when they come out in May (hopefully), or if I have enough money one of those gorgeous 12" Powerbooks that I saw yesterday. Sweetness. |

Powerbook users- please can you tell me what this port on the back of them is: About 1cm squared, with a female lattice of about 4X4 I thought it was a firewire port, but I've heard that that looks like a bigger usb port. |

it depends which powerbook model you mean. the titaniums and aliminiums (as no-one calls them) have USB and FireWire and NO hot-swappable drives. |

oh Ceri, that's the SCSI port, you need an adapter though (which you should have got with your powerbook) to connect any SCSI devices. It saves space you see, a normal SCSI port is much wider and laptops need to save space obviously. |
