Does anyone is enjoying their sound ? I like "blue station"
a lot. it reminds me of long chilled out and drunken nights
... :)

:) what's your favorite album of theirs? it's hard to pick
mine, they're all great in their own ways.

new tortoise coming out this year, possibly including their
collaboration w/ squarepusher (recorded in 2001).

standards is more electronic (just by a little) than their
previous albums, so if your favorite music is IDM go with
that. tnt is more jam-oriented, but it also contains 2 very
different sounding pieces (one that sounds like steve reich
(ten day interval) and one that sounds sort of
country-western believe it or not!). millions now living is
tighter compositionally, except for "djed" which is
sprawling (their longest track to date). tortoise
(self-titled) is like tnt but not as refined.

thx a lot, i'll download some tracks before i buy any of
these albums. i also have to find those mp3-cd who i burned
tortoise standards, i haven't marked them :P and every
album needs a bit time sometimes. :)

standards !

drum intro of first track kicks ass. Then after that
everything in the album is good.

the guitar riff in that 1st track, after the drum beat bit,
is so cool!

just so you know, "blackbird" and "blue station" are the 2
bonus tracks on the JAPANESE version of standards(!)

Tortoise = 'the for carnation' which is more GYBE! oriented.
At least the two bands share 90% of the members. I think
there's only one album by the for carnation.

for carnation?
sorry you're wrong.for carnation is mainly brian mcmahan
former of slint.....they're much more like slint.
anyone here knows gastr del sol?

Uh... you didn't like any of the other tracks at all? I
though the two that you liked were kind of boring.

I love Tortoise.

tortoise is excellent, i used to like self titled best but
its pretty shitty compared to standards and millions...tnt
is strange, theres some really good tracks but some suck.
Ive been waiting for a new tortoise album, hope its as good
as standards. anyone like the sea and cake or isotope 217?

I like slint and gastr de dol, but I dont have any gastr de
dol releases, whats the best to start off with?

Are you sure I'm wrong ? I believed the for carnation and
tortoise were the same people ... Not sure of that either -
let's check allmusic.com

Another acoustic post-rock project based in Chicago, the For
Carnation concerns full-time Tortoise members Douglas
McCombs, John Herndon and David Pajo along with Brian
McMahan, formerly Pajo's bandmate in Slint and Squirrel
Bait. Despite each member's preoccupations, the For
Carnation kept a consistent release schedule, with a debut
EP and LP on Matador during 1995-96, and a second,
import-only album the following year. The band's self-titled
third LP appeared in the spring of 2000. — John Bush

I love tortoise, my favorite is still "millions..." (the
first one I got) followed closely by "standards." I still
need to pick up TNT, but my local record store doesnt have
it....

The weird thing is, I'm really not crazy about their debut,
maybe I just need it to grow on me...The thing is I know
alot of people love this album. Are there any defenders of
this album who'd like to argue their case for me?

David

P.S. MachineofGod: As far as Gastr is concerned, go for
camofleur. You will not be dissapointed.

Oh, I misunderstood. Anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of the
album. Firefly is a personal favorite of mine.
