why are most of these threads..

offline sdrocer_eta from United Kingdom on 2003-02-08 11:09 [#00546414]

why are most of the threads completely NON music related?
most are just shite, complete crap about TV, dreams or who
does this or that.

I like to look at this board for musical views and to see
whats coming up musically artist and label wise. Also
reading people's views on certain types of music is good..
but i've noticed that you have to cut through so many
pointless threads that it ruins the flow of things..
most of what you read here is just an extension of yahoo
chat.
As i say dont get me wrong i do enjoy the musical links and
when i hear so and so give a good pointer to maybe some
music i havent experianced. but it thought the idea of a
music forem was about music??

:D

yah that's the downside of having just one messageboard.
that's how xltronic wants it though, so you'll just have to
keep on sifting through pages of crap (some of which is
funny, admit it :P)

you can't found a community only on music talk. there has to
be babbling, otherwise i would not know anything of anybody
here except their tastes, which is a bit little

sdrocer_eta browse browse the thread archive, an i'm sure
you will find a BUNCH of music related things, so if you
have something you would like to now and didn't found
something in the archive, start one. the peoples here
already know everything they want to know yet.

The "misc" thread in every community is often the largest. I
don't like to talk about music all the time, but this site
is great since you can shoot the breeze with like-minded
people.

conversation,

we are people, not programs, don't expect us to conform to
the literal purpose of everything

nearly allways get some info.

not here??
plus a few have said search but my point is its nice to
discover new music, so how do you do a search for that if
you dont know what your looking for..

you can only say so much about this musician or that untill
it's all been said hundreds of times.

chill out. if you don't like the non music threads, don't
look at them, pretend they don't exist, what ever.

because there is less talk on mu.

music talking is interesting as long as you have something
to talk about but people tend to hang around all day here
and the hundreth aphex topic simply doesn't do it. i just
had a great time reading through the vagina thread;)

just make a thread asking for recommendations.

Planet Mu is different - its a lot smaller, and the people
who come there seem to be of the older type, which makes a
difference, me thinks.

its just a case of wading through the threads, not much else
you can do.

i know what you mean though, its a bitch finding a thread
you want to read just by looking at the titleof the thread.
everyone seems to give each thread a mad title.
but most of the threads of music just usuall y have the name
of the track and band anyway, so its a case of being able to
blank all the mad titled threads and looking at the well
titled threads.

Without wanting to be rude (and I genuinely don't), I'd say
that if you want a "purer" music forum, look elsewhere --
because messageboards just settle into "grooves" and it's
difficult to change that.

but i think the search function locates words IN the
threads, so i think you could find things you are looking
for, when it comes to NEW tunes its a totally different
thing. If you can visit the site regular its not too much of
a task to wade though a couple of pages of threads, but if
you're new or only can visit rarely (like me:() it can be a
bitch to just see 1000s of threads in front of you not
knowing whats what.

i think its just life, you know, not much we can do about
it, we're all a bunch of fuckin loons anyway.

True, this is a music-board... you keep repeating that, as
if you're trying to say: "if you want to talk about other
things, do so in other mb's."

But the reason i feel at home here is because everyone (more
or less) has the same taste in music. Liking idm is what
binds us all, but then it's just fun to talk about
other things too. Actually most of my favourite discussions
i've had here were non-music related :-) Idm also seems to
attract a certain type of people (like myself), which is
probably also a reason i like so many of this mb's members.
On other messageboards i always feel like an alien...
different from everybody else.

I also like how threads can change sometimes... it starts
with a post about a specific artist, and 40 posts later the
thread has turned into something completely different. I
just love the fact that it doesn't have to be
exclusively about music in here. If idm was all we ever
talked about, i'm sure i wouldn't have stuck around here for
as long as i have.

And i agree monoid didn't make his point very subtle ;-),
but still i do agree with him. If you're searching for a
serious music-mb, where everyone exclusively talks about
music... than this is probably not the right place to look
for it.

excellent point, by the way! :-)

Really, it pleases me to see someone say that. There is
usually a sort of more-more-more-atmosphere in here (for
instance, if you mention you just bought a new record,
you'll quickly get 100's of suggestions for albums you'll
also like and must buy).

There's alot to be said for taking the time to enjoy a piece
of music. Perhaps listening to less records more often, is
better than listen to more records less often. Ehr...
sounded a bit confusing, but you know what i mean ;-)
