progeriak: I found this in an interveiw with swedish cut &
clicks-maker Andreas Tilliander:

"- Reactor is my main sound source. I program all my chords,
my drums, my little loops there, and then I use Buzz for
composing and arranging.
Buzz is a Finnish freeware sequencer with recording
functions, sample players, synthesizers, effects - the lot.
It's like your ordinary Logic or Cubase except that it's
totally modular. Everything goes everywhere. It's an amateur
program and it's open-source, so anyone can modify the
software itself or construct new effects or synthesizers.
And it's constantly updated.
- When you come home after a week or two, touring or doing
out of town studio work there's tons of new stuff. People
make all kinds of weird effects or new little software
synthesizers.
Buzz is a shut system but there is a VST and a Direct-X
loader so you can run your VST-plugins in the Buzz
environment. Andreas hasn't written any modules for Buzz
himself but there is a guy in the UK that constructs stuff
to Andreas' specifications. One of them, a loop point slider
called Bdt-Sys, is a device that lets you shift loop points
in real time so that you can change the looped area in a
long sample, almost like a slider."

This might be something like max/msp?

"This might be something like max/msp?"

No Buzz is something different, it operates at instrument/FX
level while MAX/MSP operates at a very low level in
designing those devices in very little details. Think of
Reaktor but much more complicated...

don't forget to get the student concessions if you are gonna
buy anything from cycling64. Apparrently, all you gotta do
is email or fax them a scan of something which 'prooves'
you're a student, wink wink.

Laserbeak: I know what max/msp is, I just didn?t really
thought about the difference... I got max/msp 4.0.9 on my
machine - It?s far too timeconsuming and complicated for me
right now... On the other hand, the runtime engine is quite
fun for testing stuff out. I also got some "standalone" apps
people has made using max/msp, like "ivy" and "sandbox".
These most generates noise... not that useful, if you don?t
feel like acting merzbow or something... ; )
