Okay, here is the thing--my Nani, my mothers mother, is visiting us from Kentucky. She is something like 78 or 79 years old (maybe even older...) and she has Alzheimers and has had a few strokes.
She is ordering things nonstop from magazines--and spending loads of money. My mother said she spent like $900 on popcorn. My mother is trying to get her to stop, but my Nani keeps getting upset and crying and my mother cant help her. :(
Im worried that she (my Nani) thinks she is going to die soon, and this is why she is spending so much money. Does anyone... anyone have ANY words of comfort or anything? I know this isnt a music thread, but Im worried, and I could use some comfort. :(

It's really difficult--Lindsey deserves a break from the stress.
I'm going to take her to dinner this weekend assuming the road conditions are good enough. :)

If she has alzheimers to that severity where she is spending a grand on popcorn she obviously doesnt have the capacity any longer to make reasonable descisions, and may not be able to live independently anymore if she is living alone. If so you might want to check up on her and from time to time and see if she still is able to take care of herself. Sometimes this disease goes unnoticed for a long period of time and before anyone knows it they lose the ability to feed and clothe themsleves. Maybe after you mom cools down you could talk to her about alzheimers. Maybe do some research and explain to her that Nani isn't herself right now. Im sure things will get better once everyone has a better understanding of the situation. I hope this helps. yarrr...

Thank you thank you. My mother is crying on the phone talking to her sister and telling her how Nani has gotten worse. :(
My Nani already said, in tears, that she wants to do this while she still can--she thinks shes going to die soon, I know it. :( No matter how much they fight, my Nani is my mothers best friend.
Im so scared. :( My mother has had a rough past. :(

The thing is with old people (as subjective as this might sound) is that they always make predictions about when they are going to pass on. Rather paranoid predicitons sometimes. My grandmas has been saying she probably wont live another 1-5 years for 15 years now. She's 89 right now. Your Nani might not be in a rational state of mind, or might just be babbling in the old lady language Ive heard so often. : ) Would you happen to know the exact state of her health? Find out before you start to worry yourself too much. The elderly can be a handful at times, but its our job to watch out for them when they need us to.

All right, thank you--youre a big help! I cant say much. Shes had alzheimers for a few years and shes very confused. She was watering a plastic plant earlier. She wants to put it in the ground.
Theres too much going on here; Im going to try to sleep, I think.
Thank you for your help, everyone. Goodnight!
