i havent made myself clear:
we have old aphex and new aphex
saw 1 would be an example of old aphex as ab3 or caustic window
rdj album or come to daddy would be new aphex
where is ON?

I think "On" can be considered to be quite "new". It sounds as if it was made 92-93, it doesn?t sound like the old skool acid stuff...

A lot of Aphex music is timeless. Think about the music that was around in 97 and listen to Come To Daddy now. It still sounds fresher than any of the shit that has been released this year.

and it's STILL gonna sound ahead of its time!!!

for me ON falls in the old rdj sound category, simply because it's equipment and soundwise the same era, ventolin seems much more like the transition to cut-up breaks, drum&bass, vibert influence and all...
the other transition is RDJalbum, analogTOdigital, you hear the difference a lot. i thinkn at 80 years i'll be listening to totally other musics, i hope so...

something is considered old school if it is made with equipment that is outdated or no longer used.

i'd think that old skool would be determind by the kind of sound the artist has
if you go by that, that'd mean that NIN's The Fragile is old skool because Reznor still used stuff like his moog

but that would mean if someone had 1 style last year and a whole other style this year, last years stuff would be old school.....where as if someone had made the same music for 10 years, the 10 year old stuff can still be called fresh and new

well i meant that there'd be like a limit, you know?
i mean, like NIN's PHM would be classed as old skool nin, because it was the first material that he did....broken would be classed as old skool too (kinda), but TDS wouldn't
i do get what you mean about the 10 years thing though :)
