this is one of those words i THOUGHT i knew the meaning of,
however the #1 definition is NEW to me, as is the orgin of
the word. i'll also add it's the name of a small airline
=0)

vanguard (VAN-gard) noun
1. The forefront of an army.
2. The leading position in a movement; people at the head of
a movement.

[From shortening of French avant-garde, from avant (before)
+ garde (guard).]

I think he is thinking of a VAN..GUARD..they need one for
the banks etc;)
