Chris Cunnigham

on 2001-09-21 15:02 [#00035070]

From 'the face' issue 35.

You know Chris Cunnigham from hid darker-than-dark videos
for Aphex Twin and Madonna. Now he's DJing at
Super_Colliders Freekin' the Frame night.

THE WARM UP RECORD
Donna Summer 'i feel love'
This record is the most electronic sond i've ever heard;
it's still really lush compared to anything today. it had a
big influence on me when i was a kid- my dad used to play it
non-stop.

FIVE TUNES IN THE MIX
Squarepusher 'snake pass'
This is from his new Selection Sixteen album, and its
brilliant. I put it on DAT and, because its quite short. I
mixed it in about 3 times. It sounds like an old acid track,
and it sounds wicked played loud.

Ed Rush & Optical 'gasmask'
I love this one - it really sounds 'chugging'. It grooves
along in a lovely way. Its the one that gets everyone
dancing.

Bad Company 'skin tag'
This is one of my drum and bass ones, which are all quite
brutal-sounding. Really ravey and repetative. I love drum
and bass, especially the nasty stuff.

Bad Compant 'the pulse'
I like this because its straightforward. Things need to be
really basic to be dancable. There are lots of tracks that
used to make me think 'Why dont DJs play this?' Then i
realised that they are hard to dance to. I've been known to
play early Aphex Twin tracks which clear the dancefloor.

PowerPill 'pac man'
One of the first things Aphex Twin ever put out. Its a total
rave track. Its made up of samples from the pacman game. Its
really brilliant.

THE END OF NIGHTER
Boards Of Canada 'happy cycling'
My favorite track of the last two years. I played this the
first time i ever DJed and there was literally only one
person on the dancefloor - me. I've just done a commercial
for Nissan in Europe, and Boards Of Canada did the music for
it. Whats the ad like? Oh, loads of naked bodies, the same
old stuff. Ha ha!

END.
`teapot.

tis true about I FEEL LOVE... that is one mother of a
track.....Perhaps even the start of the techno pulse....

Fuck knows how long the extended version goes on for....the
version I have on vinyl is about 12 mins at least....
