Drukqs review in The Face

Gypsy Cream from the biscuit barrell on 2001-09-21 11:29 [#00034980]

Only short, but here you go.....

'Aphex Twin - Drukqs (Warp)

You invent the future, you take it easy for a few years. You
return with Drukqs - 100 minutes of delerious rhythms,
elastic acid and Cornish organ grinding - and you remain
totally in control. Richard D James again makes the
impossible sound dead simple and, in doing so, annihalates
all competition.'

Eh? I reckon The Face is usually pretty spot on with music
reviews - some of the other bits in the magazine leave a lot
to be desired, but the music section is always pretty cool.

surely the FACE is like all pop culture rags , built by
trendy suits for trendy suits with loadsa fashion marketing
and dull interviews with useless twentysomething deni-gods
?
Actually my friend i've never read it cos i been put off by
the other nonsense on the same shelf; so if its good i'm
wrong. Always inclined to be a cynical kid, me. :-)

I'm very cynical about style mags, but The Face is actually
pretty fucking good most of the time - reading old issues is
like reading a document of what youth culture was like at
the time. ID, Dazed and Confused, Sleaze Nation etc. I can't
stand, but the Face is usually quite lush. With the
occasional bit of pretension, but, y'know, who isn't
occaisonally a bit wanky?

No? Just me? Ahh.
