i have three questions...

1) Is he still on nothing records?

2) If so, when's his recording contract up for renewal?

3) Is Reznor still involved musically?

And if so.....fucking why is he?

Manson used to be good, but after The Nobodies he's just got
complacent and commercial

he's currently recording, or finishing up a new album, I
assume on Nothing.

"Golden Age of Grotsque"

no, that was a while ago

they reconcilled and manson appeared in the video for
Starsuckers, Inc.

the nothing records site still has him on there

but then again there's no mention of the new album on there

i really hope rexnor has ditched him

1. no; nothing/interscope and manson mutually chose NOT to
renew manson's contract last year. i don't know if he's
signed at the moment.
3. trent hasn't been directly involved w/ manson's music
since 1996 but when they patched things up 2 years ago trent
promised something "diabolical" from the pair in the
(presumably distant) future.

manson is finishing up his new shitty album w/ tim skoldt
(sp?) from kmfdm right now. should come out in the spring.
check digitalnoise.org for more info and news.

I really liked antichrist superstar. I consider myself a fan
of Marilyn Manson, but Im not at all obsessed. Frankly, Ive
kind of lost interest in him.

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2003-02-02 20:25 [#00538288]

I lost interest, too. I can pinpoint my lack of interest to
a couple of things:
01: First and foremost, Holy Wood was a big, punk letdown.
as a 4-track ep, I would have loved it.
02: I will always view his collaborations with eminem and
slipknot a money-based maneuver to attract more fans.
03: Manson is constantly saying, "the new album will be
even harder than..." it's just so predictable. And the
record isn't even hard--it's just some crappy guitar bits
looped over and over with cliched lyrics and soudns that
aren't thoughtful. tracks that don't sound better than demo
stage at best. it's a hurried approach at music. damn
embarassing record, that.
04: manson constantly seems to overestimate his artistic
merit.

source for nothing records!

antichristsvperstar was his best work

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2003-02-02 20:31 [#00538293]

no no no--holy wood was punky. those guitars, ick! what
the hell was he thinking? it's like this punk/heavy metal
hybrid thing with some of his lamest beats and
lyrics. and some obligatory samples--i guess to satisfy
people who think manson is some industrial godfather.

haha. :) First of all, I agree about your number two. :) But
I kinda liked Holy Wood. ;) Maybe I just really really liked
the cd book, hah. Im a sucker for cool art.

And IM not ashamed to admit that I *gasp* like guitar.

Some of his old stuff has his best lyrics.
Here's one I like:
"I wanna be the fish,
I like the way he swims.
I bend my arms to fins
The water rushes in."
I like the analogy of trying to fit in at school; if ever he
has songs that misunderstood people can relate to, "Learning
to Swim" (learning, there, is another reference to school)
is one of them. :)

I like some of holy wood, but I think it would have been
better off had he thought it out, worked on it, and tried to
make it less of a rock outfit thing. :)

You and yer guitars ;) cue playful fist-shaking! :D

Beatles have guitars. Doesnt kmfdm have guitar, too? Some
Tori songs have guitar. Janes Addiction has guitars. Nirvana
has guitars.

So there.

Here's a list of why I call Holy Wood punk.
01: punk, adj. low-quality
02: ramones, sex pistols=punk
ramones, sex pistols: two minute guitar songs
manson: two minute guitar songs
03: ramones: pretend to have a message
manson: pretends to have a message
04: punk has shouting and screaming
manson screams "fight! fight! fight!" over and over...
05: the trend with punk is to make it music that isn't
mainstream, but that everybody listens to because they think
it's something fucking wonderful. :) Like someone's going
to say, "Wow! (Random punk band) revolutionized distorted
guitar and very basic beats!"

offline Spookyluke from United States on 2003-02-02 20:52 [#00538325]
Points: 1955 Status: Lurker

Guitars themselves aren't what I object to! :) THe Beatles
didn't rely on their guitars. They had lyrics that meant
something. They are the absolute innovators of music, I
say! :) Nothing wrong with a guitar, but you have to be
able to extract something from it. Though I don't like Jimi
hendrix, I'll say his star spangled banner captured
something very well. When I listen to the beatles, i have
lyrics, studio trickery, and awesome rhythms and melodies.
How would a song like "yer blues" stack up without those
guitars? :) it wouldn't be the same! but definitely, they
didn't stick with the same sound their whole career! :D

except for of course and trip away. :)
I like the lyrics and vocals only. drums are tolerable.

i'm talking about punk rock, punk rock is a word used by
dilitrons(sp), and heartless manipulators, about music that
takes up the energy and the bodies and the hearts and the
souls and the time and the minds of young men who give what
they have to it, they give everything they have to it. and
it's a term thats based on contempt, it's a term thats based
in fasion, style, satanism, and everything thats rotten
about rock n roll. i don't know johnny rotten, but i'm he
puts as much blood, and sweat, as sigmund freud did. you see
what sounds to you like a great load of trashy old noise, is
infact the brilliant music of a genuis, and that music is so
powerful it is quite beyond my control... and when i'm in
the grips of it, i don't feel pleasure and i don't feel
pain, i just can't feel emotions. do you understand what i'm
talking about? when you can't feel anything, and you don't
want to either...- mogwai, punk rock: (roughly)

i am SO fucking glad to hear that he's been botted from
nothing

maybe he's on his own label?

i really hope that there's no more collaboration between
Reznor and him!

i watched a video clip thats available for d/l from mansons
site (just for a laugh) and the music sounds very much like
it was heavily inspired by The Fragile (listen to the use of
the synth, you'll see what i mean)

Manson is Reznor's bitch methinks. To be honest though I
dont think he would be where he is now without Trent
Reznor... First two albums were good then from there he went
wank. Im not too excited about GOLDEN AGE OF GROTESQUE. And
Tainted Love...? What was that!!!?

heh my thoughts exactly on the pitiful tainted love

if it weren't for Reznor, manson would just be Brian Warner
and his Drum machine
