did I miss something here? there seems to be a new
portishead album confirmed for 24th/25th March release. I
thought after postponing for so long that the group couldn't
get it together and had given up.

oh well, here's a tracklisting:

1 Open Box
2 Love of Life
3 Broquette
4 Broken Wall
5 Beatless Day
6 Of Liberty for All and None
7 Alien
8 Signature
9 Minor Pain
10 Traveling Fast to There
11 Tomorrow's Death
12 Broquette (Multi Mix in F#- Slowdown)

to be honest though, I'm not sure I care anymore. it won't
be high on my list of purchases unless it is a revolution in
sound.

I would have thought it was fiction too, but the rumour is
quite widespread. I mean, there's even a tracklisting.

cheffe: 9 years! their eponymous album was released in 1997.
or is this a funny joke? ha ha ho ho.

Just search Portishead - Alien
in the search...You will find info on the hoax....

I've been searching for it but not found any information on
a hoax.. just lots of "forthcoming releases" lists showing
it as a march or april release.

I must admit the information sounds dodgy, as it comes from
some guy called David McLeaf who claims to work for Go!Beat.

unless of course you are thinking of "Portishead - Pearl",
which is definitely a hoax. that was some dodgy album out of
Russia.

I was VERY excited when I read about this " fictional album
" awhile back...Only to be told by most everyone out here it
IS INDEED fake.

well i just noticed this portishead album called alien on
soulseek (yes it was actually working !!!)...
'what the fuck?' i thought, ' i never heard about this'...
so i downloaded it... did a search on a cddb to find the
tracklisting and it didnt come up, so next i searched google
and went to the portishead website :
http://www.portishead.co.uk/breaking/
i was listening to it at the time and thinking well it
sounds like beth gibbons voice... so my next port of call
was here.

quick search and here we are, a topic saying alien is a
myth...
well ok, maybe its not an official release, maybe its not
got anything to do with portishead at all, maybe its just
somebody who sounds very much like beth gibbons, but its
welll worth the download (in my opinion of course). Theres
some good tracks on there, i wouldnt say they were all great
but many of them are lush, and the beauty of it is, i dont
feel like im ripping them off, maybe im ripping off the
person who initially tried to rip them off but... ahh sod it
im babbling now... the point of this is.... if ur a
portishead fan u should check it out, u never know u mite
just like it, official or not

Well there you go. Who would have thought the search
function worked so well.
