How can I achieve it? It's this certain sound. Kinda
like...department store music. But I don't know if thats a
good explanation.

Liek the music in the beginning of the track 'Unflustered
Parents' on Chris Morris's Blue Jam compilation. And the one
track on the RDJ album. I kind of forgot what its called.
Its beatless and thats all I remember.

Get a good synth and start pounding out sounds--best way to
get what you want. Forget all about samples, soundfonts,
and presets--I say go for the original stuff!

It has everything to do with the scales you decide to use
and the cheapness or how dated your gear/software sounds

For some reason I can bust cheese music out like crap from a
goose

Check out plone, their music is kinda "cheesy" sounding, but
I just think its wonderful

They used mostly old hardware to make their full length
album on warp (and sadly, maybe their last album)

Stick with simple melodies, just something you could play
with one hand on the piano or keyboard. That should be a
good start

Cut the low end out, trim the highs a bit. Mids are where
it's at. Tinny and flat. Give some of that a try.
