whatup-

I recently started (in October) catching up on collecting a
lot of the Richard James discography (the Aphex Twin portion
anyway), the last thing I bought was SAW2. Other than the
'Rhubarb' track, 'Stone in Focus' was what led me to buy it
to begin with. And, what the fuck, after going thru both
discs it turns out 'Stone in Focus' is, I take it, just an
unreleased gem.

Did I need to go on ebay to find a version of SAW2 that
includes this? or did I miss something

Also, tell me if ur with me on this, Windowlicker has to be
- albeit a 3-track release - James' strongest release to
date. That is, pound-for-pound it is his strongest. Could
you imagine if Drukqs, a 30-track double album was as strong
all the way through as this EP? I think that's why Drukqs
wasn't so well-received; it had to follow the Windowlicker
EP, and many may have expected a full-length Windowlicker
LP.
Each track on that was innovative, beautifully textured and
added a new depth and suggested new directions for the Aphex
repertoire, whereas much of Drukqs' electronic offerings did
not.

Finally, ending this loaded first post, why hasn't there
been any mention of the Aphex Twin album being released in
March, aptly- and honestly-entitled 26 Mixes For Cash? While
there are only two new tracks on it ('SAW2 CD1 TRK2
(Original Mix)' and 'Windowlicker (Acid Mix)') it compiles a
good amount of his remixes that may now be pretty hard to
find. I hope he's not just copping out and going for his $
from here on out, and if he is I truly believe he shot his
load on Windowlicker and exhausted himself. I'd like to see
another album from him sometime soon, even if it's on-par
with Drukqs, which I actually liked a lot.

Anyway, let me know what u think.
.peace

Well, there are 3 different releases for SAWII with some
tracks more or some tracks missing.

US Version (23 tracks): this version does not contain
Hankie and Stone in Focus
UK Version (24 tracks): this version does not contain
Stone in Focus
Vinyl Version (25 tracks): this version contains all
tracks.

The vinyl version is pretty rare though, but "Stonce in
Focus" is also available on a sampler called "Excursions in
Ambience".

why that, of all the tracks on that album, is the one left
off is beyond me.. I do understand it might have been added
onto the vinyl to fill the side up.. is Excursions in
Ambience a compilation or a limited promo sampler?

Yeah, stone in focus is my favorite song from that album and
I dont' even have it on a real cd. Shame. How can you not
like cliffs though?

vinyl has more "space" than cds, and stone in focus is 10
minutes, you do the math

Of course he's going for the $, RDJ wouldn't be quite the
same without his shameless greed ;)

depending on what youre cutting, you can usually get about
20 minutes per side on vinyl at 33 rpm

this?
