So tell me, where did you get your copy of the Draft 7.30
promo? Unless you are involved in the music industry in some
way (be in broadcasting, reviewing or whats not), you ARE an
everyday member of the public, and shouldn't have a copy too
if you go by your argument.

Its always funny to see the swell-heads get all defensive
over promos they probably paid over-excessive ammounts for.
They're only pissed because they hate to see other people
get to sample the tracks for a fraction of the cost they did
;)

I dont know about you all, but I am going to wait until it
really comes out, or until warp puts a preview of some
tracks. Stop this pirating bullshit

Pirating doesnt advance or help good music (especially
independant labels)

Seriously, why do you think they put this out on cassete in
the first place?

And dont give out this bullshit like, oooo I dont have the
money, or oooo I dont have these releases in my area. There
are available online though the warp site, amazon, cdnow,
..... etc. And most bank debit cards can be used as a credit
card now

And if you go to a movie, do you not PAY to see it? For most
entertainment dont you have to PAY to be entertained?

Arrrggghhhh, its not like this is going to be a rare
release, its probubly going to be in a lot of well known
record stores.

Just be patient and support good music, and feel good
knowing that you supported good music and advanced good art
in a small way when you buy this release

Surprisingly sensible words from mickey there ;-)

I hope you all listened and will follow his advice.

All these people searching for the tracks online... it
reminds me of myself when i was still a little boy, and i
searched the entire house to find where my mother had hidden
my birthday-presents. I was soooo curious...

But then i grew up :-p

Have some patience for god's sake!

I hope not too surprising though surrounded

8^)

Your avatar makes me giggle, I loved that show

People say that patience is a virtue, I think this thread
proves that

Yay for the people who realize that pirating music does not
promote good art

Yay!

And on that note, I take it you have NO mp3's on your HDD,
nor have you ever downloaded an MP3 without owning the CD
beforehand right? We wouldn't want you to damage future
music production now would we?

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2003-01-25 16:00 [#00528238]
Points: 3346 Status: Regular

i like the fact that i can download pretty much anything i
want. most of it sounds crap and i dont listen to it much,
but the stuff i really do like i really do buy. i buy a
hell of a lot more music since napster than i ever did
before. and it's all because of filesharing im into this
type of music.

but perhaps im a minority, cant say.

offline Mickey Mouse from The Moon on 2003-01-25 16:08 [#00528252]

BWAHAHAHA! @ "damage your future music production"

Sure I have a few, but mostly all of them are MP3's from
music makers who post their tracks on the internet and dont
release pressed material, and the rest is from old records
that are out of print, and are extremely rare, but even then
if I find rare albums that are in a shop that I have Mp3's
of I usually get the album (for instance, last month I say
aphex twin's release words and music, and I didnt give a
second thought at buying it, I bought it and trashed my
mp3's of it)

Mp3's are allright, its great for previewing music, I dont
have a problem with that at all, wanting to hear something
before you spend your hard earned money on it. Its the
people who that it to extreme's and go on soulseek and
pirate and pirate, and pirate, full albums, with no
intention of buying a copy if they run across it in a record
shop. THAT is what I have a problem with. And I see LOADS of
people doing this with independant labels releases. And in
my view, its VERY wrong, its stealing, plain stealing.

And the reason I got upset at this thread in particular, is
that I know there are people on this board who pirated the
full release of squarepusher latest album, liked it, and
didnt buy it, and probubly never will, because they have the
full album on their hard drive.

Pirating is such wank

Previews of albums in the mp3 format is a wonderfull thing
because it opens the music up for people who wouldnt
ordinarily take the risk at buying something they havent
heard. I think that is great, because if there were no mp3
previews of tracks or albums, then cool people like CORTEX
would not have found this place, this genra or whatever...
this style of music needs to have more exposure, because
there are probubly lots of eccentric and creative people who
would like it, but dont even know it exists

I don't earn any money at all, so I buy CDs rarely. I only
bought some Ae and Aphex through the years. But I don't feel
bad about first having it all in hi-q mp3s and being happy,
since I know that when I get the money, I'll buy it. Not all
at once, of course, since my collection has grown vast, but
during some following winters... Maybe even multiple copies
of the same releases, if the musicmaking really goes
downhill :)

PS: I had seen Gantz Graf in my local store right after its
release... I was peering at the CD, whispering 'soon you'll
be mine... SOON!..' and the guard was looking at me, and I
felt bad, and I threw up, and turned over, and saw the
bottle was empty, and I bashed it against the wall, put it
to her cheek, and she said, "whoa, take it easy sky", and I
opened the door, and the guys took me to this place, and
they were all there, and the man hit the desk with his
hammer, and there was a lot of human smell, and I said 'fuck
jury', and the guard said he knew there was something wrong,
and I went home, and got another bottle o'the stuff, and
plunged the crowbar in, and kissed her, and peed on the lid
and read some webcomics.

PS not fucking respponsible i am fur this bulshot

Mickey, I wouldn't call any music fan a "pirate" even if
they violate a ten thousand copyrights.

I'd save that term for the folks who are duplicating CDs by
the thousands and selling them on the street corners and
flea markets.

But that's just me.

I have a copy of the Ae promo, I will explain to you what it
is like.

It is not this grand hip-hoppish fantasmic thing Warp said,
HOWEVER it IS much more accessible than Gantz Graf, and in
terms of quality completely blows it out of the water. I may
go so far as to say it is more "accessible" than Confield,
however, it is more of an amalgamation of lp5 and Confield,
sort of, but that's not really a good analogy, as it is
quite a unique sound. Think those aformentioned titles
produced with the same gear/software as Confield but
structured more, and more "shuffled."

It will likely be THE record of 2003, unless 26 Remixes is
anything to shit your pants over.

It's not that i don't appreciate all the "wooooozieee
woooziiiieeeeeeeeee weeeeeeee, eat more banf! etc.. etc."
stuff ;-)

But it's still nice to see you say some things that make
sense once in a while :-p

On the promo... autechre obviously only want people to hear
the music on april 7th... otherwise they would have just put
the tracks online themselves (they certainly wouldn't have
gone through the trouble of putting the promo on a
cassette!). Is it so much to ask, to just respect this
wish?

A double thumbs up for all the people like Cfern who are
gonna wait for it to hit the stores!

Where the hell did you get a copy of the promo Theocide?

Yea I like to make sense some times surrounded

....but not too much sense or else I will give away my
indentity

O_O

Downloading mp3's of releases that are going to be/or are
allready widely available/or just available in general, in
my eyes at least, that is stealing, maybe not full on
pirating, but stealing none the less

For shizzle my nizzles

how mysterious!

Oh well... you seem to keep a nice balance between sillyness
and making sense most of the time. So i can't complain
really.

And we seem to have similar opinions on filesharing :-)
Which is always a good thing.

nothing wrong with downloading mp3s prior to buying a
release is there? i mean, i've downloaded lots of cd before
buying the them in the store. why would i change that
routine just because an album that is mp3-ed isn't out yet?

Ill probably buy the new AE record anyway, and I was curious
how it would sound like, however, I dont feel guilty for
dloading muzak. This world is all about WHAT you have, and
not what you COULD get !!
