Custom remixes R.I.P?

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-04-04 13:24 [#00002541]

I'm currently discussing the custom remixes issue with Warp
and Rich.

It looks bad; maybe I have to remove the section - I'm still
waiting for the final decision though.

Tell me your opinions about this. Does it harm the industry?

ast on 2001-04-04 14:05 [#00002542]

I highly doubt anyone would download a remix instead of
downloading the real thing off napster. but either way...
mp3 quality sucks so I\'ll just go buy it

it's a remix?! it's one way that gets us actively involved
in supporting rdj! Why would they need to be removed? That
would be quite fucked up if you had to remove that section..
although I will admit that some of the remixes use too many
samples and may sound too close to the original, but other
than that, come on! shit. Remixing is one of the main
reasons I come here. I like to see how other artists hear
his music, and the best way to do that is through remixing.

Keep it coming -- I'll forward good opinions to Warp/Rich --
we won't give up aight?

If they make u take it down then that is just pretty damn
sad in my view. Why the hell would he be pissed of that his
**FANS** are making tracks inspired by him. If i was rdj i
would be well chuffed!

Scary Bear on 2001-04-04 18:40 [#00002551]

Yeah n' I am trying to make some stuff as well now.
Admittedly I suck but that is not the point. I have mates
that have met RDJ and say he is a pretty sound bloke so
maybe there is a bit more to it than what may seem --- I.e:.
Copyright laws etc etc, but personally I think that Warp are
fucking out of line.

I reckon we should write to them and complain and stuff, in
masses like.

Sounds corny at first, like I'm a fucking over dramatic
anti-establishment for no reason type person, but look at it
from the point of view that Phobiazero has worked his arse
off to keep this site looking stylish and giving it all the
features it has, and I value that coz in my free time come
over here and see what people have made who likes the same
shit as I do. No it's fucking out of order.

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-04-04 18:44 [#00002552]

Yeah, I've wasted hundreds of hours on that section and
lot of money as well.

ross from Canada on 2001-04-04 19:11 [#00002553]

There's got to be some way we can sort this out. After all,
we are reasonable people.

hedtwin from Manchester, England. on 2001-04-04 19:19 [#00002555]

i agree, we definetly should write to them or something.

tune*fx on 2001-04-04 19:35 [#00002556]

why is this case is so familiar? maybe because of Napster
vs. RIAA... Anyway the remixers are using some samples
without license. I dont know what to say. Distort those
samples, and you will be clear :)

hedtwin from Manchester, England. on 2001-04-04 20:02 [#00002560]

i may get drawn and quartered for this, but to me both rich
and warp sound like utter wankers for this. Just my opinion.

tune*mx on 2001-04-04 20:11 [#00002561]

agree

Scary Bear on 2001-04-04 20:13 [#00002562]

True. But there are lots of people involved. Richard might
not even know about this yet!!!

tekn010G from Australia on 2001-04-04 22:25 [#00002579]

even if it does go down, we can keep the ones that don't use
samples can't we? they can't copywright a set of keys and
chords,

rob aka bucephalus from australia on 2001-04-05 01:54 [#00002597]

if the remixes section goes down, why not have a section
where people send in their original songs inspired by aphex
twin??? that wouldn't be too bad...

tekn010G from Australia on 2001-04-05 05:41 [#00002606]

yeah that's a great idea, but you would have to make the
criteria for entering a song strict, so that people don't
just use you as a host for their music,
such as,.....
a 20(?)MB limit,
they have to be regulars (such as id lab or dj fony)
they have to talk to you(mr phobia) first
and other stuff as well
