or travelling birds in english
lovely film, i just saw it
director is jacques perrin btw

its a film about birds migration
one of the most beautiful films i ever saw
it looks like a documentary but it actually isnt because we
really dont get much information about birds-except for the
specie name and where do they migrate and live. the way
camera is set it really gives you the filling like you're
one of the birds-picture was probably/most likely edited,
but it still gives you the most genuine filling how is to be
a bird
and the music is really going great with the picture
i'd recomend this film to all not just because of the
beautiful bird pictures but also because of the brilliant
scennery and many of you will appreciate the music which is
sometimes a lot like sigur ros kind of stuff

anyone saw it yet?

closely followed by Sonatine.

Microcosmos, I think, a long time ago, with my
school. It's about insects. Yes. I think I liked it. Yes.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301727/

It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary.
It's truly a magnificent film. It'll challenge what a movie
can say through it's editing, and cinematography.
Information can be told sporadically, people today can't
comprehend it's not a given thing.

'peuple migrateur' literally means 'migrating peoples'
the french have a tendancy to make beautiful looking nature
documentaries. they get some really amazing footage but
don't include much scientific information about what it is
you are watching.

i like this approach as much as attenborough's natural
history angle.

the only downside to some french nature films is that they
sometimes include 'cute' animal stories to explain the
footage.
i saw one once with had some incredible closeup footage of
insects.. but all the while there was an annoying/invasive
musical backing track interrupted only by a woman telling a
story about 'mr butterfly' (or monsieur papillion, if you
will).. in the end i had to stick the tv on mute + put a cd
of my own on.

hehe, you watched microcozmos - by the same director (and
most of the crew).

this one was the same regarding "cute" animal story :)
that's why i don't consider it a documentary :)

Don't the french have goose fat on their pig cheeks and
ducks?

Microcosmos.

But I don't think this one has any commentary, except at the
end.

i just watched a documentary on how this movie was made...i
thought they used a lot of computer editing, but there were
no tricks used actually. (almost) all the birds were trained
which would be very hard to belive...it is just unbelivable
how domesticated these birds were - they always follow their
trainer...so all the crew had to do was to put the trainer
on the ultralight airplane or whatever and the birds would
just follow - totally amazing. they were filming in all over
the world and they filmed over 400 kms of film and it took
them over 4 years...so no wonder the outcome was so
brilliant.
