The track itself is real, but there was never a record
pressed. Unless someone can prove me wrong...

I remember foolishly looking through Selectadisc and other
shops in Nottingham for it on the supposed week of it's
release and was politely informed that the NME was having me
on. So either the knowledgeable folks in Selectadisc were
wrong or the NME were going for a double bluff. Certainly
no-one has ever been able to prove one exists for sure. I
ain't wasting my time searching!

lizardfister and all,

The pirelli advert yeah I've got that track its on Joyrex J9
unless I'm mistaken.

No I wouldn't probably sell any of my vinyl 'cause you're
right I'd probably regret it. But I find it very interesting
all the same discovering what the value of some of my
records are going for. Now if I had 2 or each now that would
be a different story. Lol.

xceque,

I didn't know there was a Selectadisc in Nottingham I
thought there was only one in Soho in London.

I'm not being funny, but a friend of mine suggested this a
while ago to me. He said I should take the mp3 I downloaded
off the internet. Clean them up a little and press my own
white labels of AB5. At the time I thought it would never
work...now I wonder.

ecnadniarb,

Well you could do that. But if you plan on selling them let
me just ask you this, how do you like prison food? Lol.

promo, there was a Selectadisc in Nottingham, spread
over three shops on one street. I don't live there now, so I
don't know if it's still there. The Pirelli track is
actually an edited mix of the Garden of Linmiri track on J9.
Edited down to 1 minute, but not just shortened, it's
actually very slightly different, especially at the very
end. It's not hard to find mp3s of it.

ecnadniarb, it'd take works of dedication and miracles to
clean those buggers up to anything approaching release
quality. Even the "high quality" mp3s at 192k are more poo
than my poo :)

I am a scouser, I like it just fine :D

I would never do it, I just find it odd that people would be
willing to pay that much for a vinyl because it has
photographic proof in the form of a scratched on catalogue
number.

The copies I have from a couple of years ago are really
good. I got them from a private FTP, dunno who the fella
was who gave them to me, he sent me a message on Napster
asking if I wanted to hear rare Aphex stuff. I will get
them on this machine and share them on soulseek tomorrow so
you can have a listen and see what you think.

ecnadniarb,

Yeah I agree totally theorectically there could be loads of
fakes out there. I suppose there needs to be some sort of
technology which can perhaps do carbon dating or something
similar these records and then say for instance people can
say 'no this record is 1 year old or yes it is 7 years old
etc etc'.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-01-20 17:47 [#00521761]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

Still won't be difinitive 'cause I suppose they could just
use old records for effect. I guess it boils down to honesty
but yeah there has to be absolutely tonnes of fakes around
the place - the opportunity to make money on them seems to
obvious for dodgy types.

I've got a track on tape from a recording which came with a
magazine now I haven't heard that track on any of the
Analogue Bubblebath series, none of the Caustic Windows, and
I doubt whether its on Universal Indicator. I'm not being
very helpful so I better locate it and give a bit more
detail just in case people actually know it.

If it's worth it, that is. :)

Aphex fan. Taking your bids now. Lol.
