Why is it a shame?

offline hobbes from age on 2003-01-15 08:39 [#00514875]
Points: 8168 Status: Lurker

well its not drastic or anything just a shame that people
get promos and then sell them...if you want people to hear
it ,fine.... just the lucrative side of it i guess....AE
havent even released the album and people are already trying
to make money on it.....

Tape only. Probably a good thing since it will encourage
more people who download the promo to buy the vinyl/cd
afterwards (or more likely, wait for someone else to buy it
and upload to the net) ;)

Ah well, I hope whoever wins it will encode it to MP3 to
share with the rest of us.

this would be a great way to slow down file sharing, it to
hand out promos on cassette and not cds

im sure a lot of peeps, dont even own 1 casstte

it's true,
warp releases promos on cassette
so that it's a little harder to get them
on sharing sites.

I've got a copy of the promo,
the quality of the recording isn't great,
sources will be kept secret,
Draft 7.30 is going to give everyone
a kick in the fucking arse,
it's incredible and a little more accessible,
like Aphex and Ae working together.

but it's just Ae.

A t o p

you?

and is there a way you put it on soulseek?

it's just plain silly releasing promos on cassettes. they
shouldn't release any, or if they do, proper ones

offline gl1tch from The Meantime (United States) on 2003-01-16 14:19 [#00516703]

There are ways to convert it. How do you think all of those
Vinyl only releases are out there?

..... C'mon.

i think it's probably a fake, too.

Points: 4630 Status: Lurker | Followup to gl1tch: #00516703

yeah, i know, i converted some for myself, once.

i don't think vinyl only still exists because of
anti-filesharing purposes, it has a life of it's own, it's a
larger thing, the sound is softer and it has a tradition.
there are good reasons for vinyl.
those casettes piss me off, cause i can't figure out their
purpose. i can't listen to the music, and if, than low
quality. it does not replace the album by any means so what
are those guys afraid of? i doubt that anyone who has
download a 4 track demo with high qual mp3's will not buy
the album if he likes the music. it's a silly attitude
methinks, not much thought behind

it'd be really nice if that got ripped and spread around...
assuming it's real, which... it looks.

if i were autechre i would sell fake promos on ebay (or
maybe give some unreleased tracks with the draft names, the
person will get the real thing and probably throw the tape
away, thinking he got ripped off). sit back, make some
money, and smile :D

my plan if i ever got big (some how :wank wank:) i would put
something really rare on some tapes and go around selling
them/giving them to salvation armys and thriftstores and
such.

Not in a lifetime is it that I would obtain such a tape but
if I did I think I would respect its rarity and not share
it.

Not much of a community thinker 'ey?

I just hate it that all kinds of albums are on the net WAY
before their official release date. It really takes the fun
out of just waiting for a good album to reach the stores.

Autechre is ALWAYS worth the wait imo.

*I'll delete Massive attack's 100th window right away*

loeser - the way i look at it. If i dont want to hear the
new album until its release then i just dont download it. Im
sure the people who like Autechre and their music will buy
it anyway. The try before you buy should be an option for
anyone purchasing music. You dont want to waste money on
crap do u ?

i usually make extensive use of this option; but in that
particular case i think i'm going to wait 'till the official
release, cause mp3's would harm the christmas-feeling when
the postman comes on April 8th. i worship it too much for a
probably poor pre-listen in mp3-format.

not that i don't download other stuff though :)

It really is a shame when you find that a track you have is
fake. I dont mind waiting til April though coz I still aint
done clearing space for missing AE material. :)

On a side note...

has anyone found out who some of these 'fakes' are? I'm
curious about the song 6ie.cr on the 4 track promo, and iv
vv iv vv vii in particular... because they both sound
actually pretty cool, and I'd like to hear the original
artist, assuming they are in fact, fakes.

i'm listening to the full version and i'm not that sure if
iv vv vI vv whatever is a fake, it sounds cool
