"want him to do something mindblowing as his music in the
beginning was..?
"

Well i actually think Druqks is his best work to date :-)

I can just imagine what a record like that would have
sounded like had Autechre made it... it'd be a single-cd, no
piano-tracks, no anweringmachine-messages, probably just the
drill'n'bass tracks... but without all the twists and
turns... it'd just be alot more balanced and
straightforward.

Not that that's a bad thing... but i like the weirdness and
the imperfections Richard always brings to the music. Myth
or not... it is that that i love about afx.

No, damn it, I'd say AFX all the way. His connection to
music is way beyond some people. How many on this earth
would listen to a single rythm for hours, or make a double
cd when lucid dreaming? Never forget!! Never forget, people!
And how many in 1994 had created a track like Ventolin?

"I think the little fellow is frankly intimidated by the
many
electronic musicians with more technical skills and has lost

sight of the from-the-gut grasp of melody and song and
primitivism that used to be the bread and butter of his
style."

if you think he gets intimidated by other peoples technical
skills then you obviously ain't listening to his music. I
would love to hear ANYONE else make a track like ziggomatic
17 - i mean, for fucks sake - he know his shit inside out.
And as for talking about 'bread and butter of his style',
that's progress for ya.

acrid avid jamshred put a big smile on my face when i had it
on my md out in ´the city today,
too bad i cant whistle it properly...
i´d keep aphex cause he dares so much or as others would
call it for his insanity.
i think most of his material is well balanced and quite
100%.

don't misunderstand me, I like AFX.. but nothing more.

I don't think his music is very interesting. it doesn't grab
me. I never hear this "insanity" people always talk about.
always sounds like another projected image to me.

now, ae - they hit me in the stomach. they really get to
me.

so, yeah, I'm putting AFX's authority in question - its
gotten dusty..

AFX and AE are both great but Richard has the advantage
because he's one person and AE are two people. Do the math.

Burn all my albums, just leave me drukqs and I'll be fine.

even though I have everything on CD or CD-R by Autechre
including some live sets :)

i prefer serious music, if i can call it that. ae is
perfect for that. aphex is more fun, which is good, but in
the end i'll always prefer ae by a good margin.

"so, yeah, I'm putting AFX's authority in question - its

"

So at some point you did think afx was superior to autechre?
(he must have had the autority some time for it to get dusty
;-)).

There is alot to be said for autechre... i think they are
technically more skilled, and at the moment (confield/gantz
graf... my opinion may change after i hear the new album)
they appear to be the only ones trying to create something
new... a form of music that didn't exist before.

As much as i love druqks, i have to admit that it's more
like a further and deeper exploration of the
rdj-album-sound, rather than something completely new and
innovative.

But there's just something about richard's music that i hear
and apparantly you don't... :-p
i don't know if "insanity" is the right word for it, but
it's probably as close as a description can get. For me this
makes his music more interesting... as much as i love
autechre.

no, I've never REALLY liked afx. its okay. I'm just saying,
people are always screaming how INCREDIBLE afx is - maybe he
was when he first started out, but I don't hear that
anymore.

ae is the first "idm" I heard.

and yes, AFX is one person, but ae don't create tracks
together. they both make tracks independantly and then
choose together which ones go on the album.

so you do the math.. TWO people making great tracks.. :P

for me afx was the first idm that i heard...

maybe that (partly) explains it? Your first idm-records
possibly leaves the biggest impression, and shapes your
musical taste a little?

you can choose between the most beautiful girl in the world
(totally waiting for you to make her all that you wish) or a
release of ab5 (only one in the world specially released for
you)

what do you choose??

haha you know i ask myself and my friend this kind of
dilemmas very often..

i'd go for the girl.. but wth pain in my heart.. man, AB5
just for me..

image he'd really do that, that RDJ would knock at your door
saying i've got one copy of SAW6 for you, or Analogue
Jacuzzi 2 or something :) ..

..still i'd choose the girl i think :D
although probably it's more easy to listen to AB5 for a
while than listen to a girl for a while ..

man what a choice..
tough
