my mate reckons the best drum beat in a song is Message In A
Bottle by The Police hehe

Barrett, Syd from Toronto on 2001-09-15 20:05 [#00032256]

nin - piggy
nin - wish
bjork - hunter
godspeed you black emperor - a bunch of songs
tool - same

there's so many...... that's a few of them.

-=|FUCKFACE|=- from London on 2001-09-15 20:08 [#00032258]

Why do so many of you all like NIN/tool/deftones etc. It
seems like another teenage trend to like these "cerebral"
metal bands. It's pathetic, you know, and you'll grow out of
it.

-=|FUCKFACE|=- from London on 2001-09-15 20:10 [#00032260]

Still - Godspeed You Black Emperor! are the best band in the
fucking world*, no doubt about that.

*apart from a big list of others I would tell you about if I
could be fucked.

Jay on 2001-09-15 20:10 [#00032261]

NIN? Tool?
I'm sorry my friend, You don't seem to know what you're
talking about.

Face, Fuck from London on 2001-09-15 20:15 [#00032263]

No I don't know shit, I haven't even heard either of them.
In fact, I'm an ignorant bastard, but to my knowledge
they're the kind of thing nihilistic teenagers listen to
while they're slitting their wrists. Or something.

OK, throw large stones at me after I count to three...

teapot from brisbane on 2001-09-15 20:18 [#00032264]

just becouse im a nihilistic teenager listening to those
bands while i'm slitting my wrists doesn't mean they are not
talented dammit.

jupitah from Minneapolis on 2001-09-15 20:20 [#00032266]

Not a list at all, but a track I heard the other day. It's
so wicked!

Mum - Smell Memory

The entire album shouold be heard by all.

-=|FUCKFACE|=- from London on 2001-09-15 20:20 [#00032267]

Whatever. I don't fucking care.

jupitah from Minneapolis on 2001-09-15 20:26 [#00032268]

Oh, I suppose I should add just about every track from
Vespertine.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-09-15 20:29 [#00032269]

Well this isn't exactly drumBEATS per say, but my favorite
shit is when people go REALLY crazy with drums, but don't
lose the beat. Like:

Squarepusher - Tommorow World
Aphex Twin - Girl/Boy Song
Aphex Twin & Squarepusher - Port Rhombus - the drums in this
are nuts...

GreenEmber from happyland on 2001-09-15 20:38 [#00032271]

Dentaku on 2001-09-15 23:54 [#00032299]

Plastikman - Plastique (it's great what you can do with an
808)
New Order - Blue Monday
Many old Skinny Puppy songs
Almost all of Erasure - I Say I Say I Say
Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits (of course the whole Carboot
Soul album works perfectly)
Buddy Rich - Birdland
Cibo Mato - Sugar Water (sampled straight from the Cure
remix album)
U2 - New Years Day
Charlatans - The Only One I Know
Stone Roses - Fools Gold (I know it's cheezy)
Mouse On Mars - Schnick-Schnack
Talvin Singh - OK (if you haven't heard this buy/download it
now to hear a great percussionist)
Wouldn't it be great if Talvin Sings and cEvin Key where to
remix each others stuff?

Dentaku on 2001-09-15 23:55 [#00032301]

Ha Sings.
I meant Singh

That spastic shit at the end of NIN's The Perfect Drug, I

Who Then Now video.

The second song in the RDJ album is so insane. The drum beat
is simple but so much thought went into it. There are 0-0-0-
and 000 drum hits. (0= a drum hit & -= a soundless
placeholder in time). This is a fractal, scaling symmetry.
The two are the same, only one is larger in scale. "4" also
is brilliant and hard to understand how it was made. I also
the 4th song on that album's beat, because it's based on 5
repetitions instead of 4. A lot of squarepusher,
www.mp3.com/astrix has some good percussion based on loops,
though a bit lacking in rich sound. The 4th song on ep7 and
I think the 7th song have a totally weird clicky fast beat.
The last song on one of the disks on tri rep has an
excellent drumish beat. I think the beat is the most
appealing aspect of music to me.

Cool Rephlex...I picked those same 2 Nirvana songs before I
even read your post.

Really, most beats in Nirvana songs are great to me...a lot
of them could almost be called Break Beats.

Stone from San Antonio, Hell, U.S.A. on 2001-09-16 18:54 [#00032535]

I almost forgot...

That drum breakdown in the middle of "The Perfect Drug" by
NIN. That shit is just ill...

Stone.
