Earthbound
Final Fantasy anything (especially VII)
Silent Hill 1,2,3 (3 being the best IMO)
Chrono Trigger/Cross (CC is amazing musically)
GTA Vice City (for a killing, driving action game)
Gran Turismo 1 prolly had the best racing soundtrack
PSO (Dreamcast)

.....others

worst soundtrack ever - Aquanaut's Holiday if you
have ever played this game, which i hope you haven't, you'd
know, by god.

I didn't read all the replies to this thread, but has anyone
mentioned streets of rage 2 and 3? and vectorman is decent
too.

anybody who knows anything about vg music knows that Y's
(Falcom Team) created one of the most memorable music in vg
history. they pioneered the use of great instrumentation
because they were the first to come out with CDs for their
console. Y's I, III, IV are one if not the greatest albums
of all time. whoever doesnt believe me can do a little
research on the subject matter.

One of the most underrated soundtracks of all time is Kirby
Superstar for the SNES! INCREDIBLE cutesy little tunes, and
they're psychotic and complex. Oh my God.

And any SNES Capcom game... Mega Man, UN Squadron, Street
Fighter, etc... they had this certain ''sound''... synths
that you recognized as ''Capcom''. Faux pas guitars.

The (original spectrum version) Manic Miner "Hall of the
Mountain King" rendition. So horrible and jarring, it's like
the V/vm of the early 90s ;)

i totally agree - great stuff, and at the time there was
nothing else that really sounded like it. i doubt silent
hill would have been the same if it had a scored soundtrack.

Yeah, Silent Hill's Akira Yamaoka i brilliant. Silent Hill 3
has much more ''chilled'' hip-hop tunes, and at first that
kind of stuck out at me as a flaw... but over time, I warmed
up to it... it sometimes doesn't sound right given the
situations, but for the tracks are just fantastic, they
really hold up well outside the game. It's even got chick
guitar rock...

But Silent Hill 2 had a horrifiying soundtrack, that's the
scariest game I've ever played, and most of it was in my
head. One of favorite tracks from it is actually Heaven's
Night, one of the few songs with a straight beat. And the
first track (White Noiz or Reflections depending on who you
ask) is amazing. Definitely kicks the crap out of Resident
Evil's over-the-top Hollywood orchestrations.

Does anyone remember Psygnosis from back in the day? They
had some wicked music on their games. Ok, how about
Masteronic, (now eventually called infogrames) they had some
wicked music on their 1980s computer games. I had loads of
their games on cassette for my amstrad cpc, ahh memories.

I still like the music from strider on mega drive, just cool
minimal clanking noise in places, raging noise in others.
Sonic and streets of rage series go without saying... the
music to lemmings was sweet as well :-)

Fucking hell, that's eerie. I was listening to Kirby's
Adventure this morning.

Kirby games have the cutest, wildest melodies ever. Kirby
Superstar is almost virtuosic. So dang brilliant.

And Zero Wing! That game isn't just ''All Your Base'', it's
fun, challenging, and rocks the block. ''Intro'' and
''Natols'' kick my ass. The game does too, I hate having to
go back to the start of the level every time you die...
which is a lot.

Thunderforce 4 (Lightening Force, with an E) is my favorite
side scrolling shooter ever, and the tracks from that game
would song fantastic covered by a metal band. I had a few
tabbed out myself and the riffs rocked steady.

Nemesis the Warlock from 2000AD on Spectrum and Amstrad
CPCs.

The o2 remix is fantastic, if you can find it... 'Should be
on the overclocked site which I can't remember the address
of.

Even if you've not heard the tune, you should still give it
a listen. Very dark.

from, but I would say the games Alloy Run, Simons Quest,
Metriod, & Wizards & Warriors are all very good.

Has anyone ever heard any other recordings/versions of the
Simon's Quest town theme? One of my favorite melodies of all

Vampire Killer and others, but NEVER this one!

I recently picked up this Kirby Superstar you talk about...
that game is INSANE! :-p

Complete and utter japanese madness!! Haha. I haven't even
played all the games yet... but i did play through one
called "revenge of the meta knight", and it was the most
bizarre thing i've ever played! Even the instructions were
weird ("first pick up the controller... it's that grey
thing with the purple buttons on it!
" haha!).

And then the game itself. The game would have been quite
challenging, because there's always alot happening and alot
of enemies on screen. But you've always got the help of one
of those "buddies" or whatever they were called, who do
almost all the work for you :-p

And the enemy-captains (?!) are constantly talking to each
other on the bottom of the screen... i didn't have a clue
what that was all about. I was just walking through the
levels, amazed by how many shapes kirby can take, trying to
understand what was going on whilst my buddy killed all the
enemies for me :-p I finished the game on my first try,
hehe. Brilliant fun though.

I can't say i've paid much attention to the music yet...
will do next time!

"Kirby games have the cutest, wildest melodies

"

Have you ever played "Kirby64, the crystal shards" for N64?

Awesome music in that game! Completely unlike the music in
any of the other kirby games. Some of it is almost
ambient... It makes playing the game a very soothing
experience :-)

yes, yes.. 'tis a great game.. i played it in a hotel room

worth it..

though..
