Hey, just thought some people might want to check out some south african electronica. The electro scene is really startin to flourish down here, with lotsa parties poppin up in cape town, anyway...check out 'Felix Laband', he's pretty cool, mix of ambient/electro/triphop...quite cool.
You can download a track here from his label website:
http://www.africandope.co.za/mp3/felix/44_down_the_stairs/s leepwalking.mp3
or check out www.africandope.co.za
Or if you have some cool mp3 downloadin proggy try to get some from his '4/4 down the stairs' album. ('underwater puddles' --> cool little ambienty track.)

i'd like to hear some more african electronica. seems original, unlike most topics on here which are either about autechre, autechre sucking, confield sucking, confield being genius, or how crappy this board has gotten.

i'd like to add to this topic if for no reason other than to support a topic other than the type zaphod refers to. i start many topics about unexposed music/art that this board might like and after about 2 replies it gets buried by the usual repeat discussions.

that happens very often on this board, and its a shame because there are people on here who are actually interested in a variety of music and like finding out about new artists. that was why i joined this board, but its gone downhill in that sense.

anyway, to NOT detract from this topic, does anyone else have african electronica, as it would seem that with more tribal rhythms and such it would be quite good.

yes, got to love those african rhythms. there is an african music show on a local radio station that i catch from time to time. a lot of it is dance oriented electronic music, but not cheezy uninnovative crap. i've been meaning to listen to it more so i can catch some of the good artists and do my research. i'll let yall know if i find any goods.
i'll check that out fly.

Zaphod, you complain about topics about how the board sucks, and yet you just complained right there...
I'm sorry if you really thought my post on why I think Autechre isn't amazing, or as you seem to think, why I think autechre sucks, was offensive.
I'll check out that african electro when I get the chance, i'm very interested! once this cd is done being listened to.

i managed to find felix laband's 'donkey rattle' a while back. now THAT is a tune that you need to blast thru a pa. just like autechre's 'eutow'

it's not my music. it is electronica made in Africa, more specifically South Africa. So why not label it as such?
...
Old topic :)
Check out Felix's latest offering: "Dark days exit". It's quite pleasant, nothing groundbreaking, just good melodies with blips and beats. It has plenty of character. I think it may have had an international release.

because the difference of meanings between "african electronica" and "south african electronica" is huge.

I think siqnature are from kenya, pretty cool stuff, sort of disorienting and hypnotic and whatnot. Here is a free music called "toque" and i am endorsing it for your EARS

why are you turning a lovely little topic about music into a semantic issue? you may assign any old meaning which suits you best.
this toque sounds okay. a bit repetitive.
