What does everyone think of Billy Corgan's new band? I downloaded 'Honestly', it's a really good track and I look forward to getting the full album, it sounds alot like some of the older Pumpkins' stuff (which I love) |

Check their new website too, very funky and poking fun at themselves. I can't wait for their first album. THe chemistry from all these vetran rockers is great. "Sorrow" is a killer track, also "What have they done to me" "The Empty Sea" man, even the kinda poppy song "Honestly" as you mentioned, is great. This is the band that as a Pumpkin fan, I have dreamed about. No bullshit, just rock. |

I think they will do fine. They have ALL already done the drugs overdose thing, the binge drinking thing. This is their show, and they are vetran rockers, I think they will do whatever the hell they want to do. If their egos get in the way, well, then we have problems. They have been hard working, but very easy go lately, if they keep it up, they will hopefully be around for a while. |

they aren't tied up in the same BS that every other band is. Bands are boring because they follow formulas. An aged, veteran rock band, doesn't have to do that becuase they've done it before. It's clear in all their colorful shit that 80's throwback isn't their style, but their poking fun at the very boring formula that they've all pursued before. Get in on the joke and enjoy the noise that is their soundtrack |

Thanks but no thanks. I enjoy listening to musicians who are serious about the music they make. Rock is dead anyways, its time to reinvent it. Tool is a good example of this. |

Zwan does have Dave Pajo of slint/tortoise/papa m/palce... Matt Sweeney from Chavez is also in zwan. I'm looking forward to hearing more zwan just because the two of them are plaing in the band |

yeah david pajo is in zwan. i don't know slint, shamefully enough. apparently the other members of zwan considered him some kind of god, according to one of the 'reviews' on zwan.com. one of the zwan homemovies from zwan.com is an acoustic solo performance by pajo. homemovie #4, i believe |

i think they do take themselves seriously, judging by interviews and the first single honestly, which is a desperate attempt (i think) to score a huge hit among teenieboppers. the whole site/album design with the rainbows and birds (very 70s) serves as a trademark, easily recognisable. they want to come off as a brand, i think. i don't mind. i have high hopes for the new album as they're all very talented musicians. but why is the european release two weeks after the worldwide release?? they want to conquer america and leave it at that, maybe? |

cheers netlon i will check out the movie. you have to hear slint my friend. i have the untitled ep (called glenn/rhoda sometimes?) and spiderland. they both kick serious arse. pretty serious, interesting time signatures. i think they were a large influene on mogwai and i love mogwai. get spiderland though. track 1 breadcrumb trail is my fave. and good morning, captain is great too. |

yes david pajo of slint and tortoise is with them but i think smashing pumpkins sucked and pale if compared with bands like slint and tortoise and billy corgan is an egomaniac wich never wrote a decent song. go to listen to slint's "washer" that's a song....not zero. |

little bit....... i think it's just different style, different strokes. You can't say the pumpkins weren't talented, even if there stuff was more mainstream than good underground groups. Egos? Well, I don't know, being in an arena rock band would do that to you. Check songs like "Set The Ray to Jerry" "Starla" and "Mayonaise" then say he didn't write good shit. I do understand your point though, just saying they made lots of quality tracks. |

wow i think everyone says exactly what you said about their favourite band :P can't argue over taste, and blatant echo is right with the songs he mentions smashing pumpkins are the best example of a band whose singles are completely not representative of the albums they came from. oh but you MUST get all slint.. not only spiderland and the untitled 12", also Tweez - their first LP. loud as fuck. david pajo is pretty brilliant - all his papa m stuff is top notch. I really don't believe this brand-crap. especially someone like pajo - he's always just gone and done what he likes. |

sure, tits.. lets start with his first incarnation: aerial m - this is all instrumental and pretty beautiful. I'd go for the first LP: "aerial m". the WHOLE LP is good, but some good tracks: "dazed and awake", "compassion for m". and lets jump to his last LP, under the name Papa M: "whatever, mortal". more singing on this one. go for the tracks: "krusty" (with the Simpsons playing in the background), "many splendored thing", "sabotage" (which reminds me a lot of slint..). he made a lot more albums and even more singles. from the singles you could try and find mp3s of the "Songs for Mac" ep - "so warped" and "the person and the skeleton". especially the last one.. also check out . just read that Pajo played in Stereolab for 6 months and then decided to play in Tortoise. man, he's been EVERYWHERE! he says some nice things about Mary Hansen and says he wrote a track for her, an instrumental - so that could well be "compassion for m".. if you're having trouble finding some of this stuff, let me know, I'll encode some tracks to mp3 and put them on slsk. |
