but there's no other obsessive (5 new releases almost everyday) site. sometimes i agree, sometimes don't...but reviews will never be perfect cause human minds are so unique.
but i do wonder what makes them so popular in music fans typing/talking

*nods in agreement*
pitchfork is a scam.. they've scammed probably millions of people into thinking they're the authority on cool music. they may cover fantastic music but their writers are hacks and you shouldn't trust any of their reviews even if they don't seem far from what you think. pitchfork are like those stuck-up pricks at the record store who sneer at 99% of the customers for buying "bad" music and then at the other 1% for buying good music too late.

i have no difficulty whatsoever placing my trust in at least a handful of their writers and wouldn't think twice about calling Mick Richardson one of the most knowledgable electronic critics in the world right now.... i won' t argue that there is a large degree of pretension in what they do... but when it comes time for the best of list at the end of the year... you know there'll be a lot of awesome stuff..

and here you go for the record:
Radiohead: 9.3 Massive Attack: 5.1 (deserved) Autechre: 6.2 Mogwai: 7.1 Aphex: 7.7 Zwan: 4.8 Cat Power: 8.9 Blur: 9.0 Kid 606: really hasn't happened yet... unless we're talking about the Illness EP which hasn't been reviewed
conclusions to be drawn: hating a review site... and then assuming that they must hate everything you love, and will love the one token item around the bottom of the list that you've thrown in to show contrast... doesn't always work out...
some of the guesses were bang on... some were way off... and certain albums that one would've expected to be good... were most certainly not... and deserved every docked mark they received... from everyone

Well they're dead wrong about that new Britney Spears single - it's magnificent!
How can you not love lyrics that feature the line My hips are movin' at a rapid pace?
She's the cheese queen. reconize

i've followed along and i was happy to be wrong when i was. it's not always that they give what i and many others feel to be a great album a bad review or vice versa, it's their whole ATTITUDE.. it's WHAT they say in their reviews that really makes them shitty journalists. it's their embodiment of rock journalist cliches (which they unfortunately put to use on electronica and hip-hop reviews as well), like qrter just said, and like i and others have said earlier in this very old thread, their total egomania and backward thinking. half the reviews are exercises in smugness and contempt. this sort of self-importance and pompousness is why i don't trust or give two shits about spin or rolling stone. for an outlet that so many people i know and am friends with trust, i expected more from pitchfork when i started reading their stuff.

hahah I asked ryan scheiber or whatever (editor-in-chief): "so what band did you not make it with"
and he called me a "666" and a fuck.. I was telling him how transparent the "we are the world section" is.. it's to make them seem less predictable/indie and that it was like a "let me play too!" plea to the mtv contingent

i know, it's totally transparent. it's something they've been concentrating on for about a year now to throw off detractors who say they only give reviews to the most ultra elite music. they'll also kiss the asses of the extremely mainstream to make it seem like they're not so one-dimensional and go out of their way to diss great non-mainstream music (eg: last year's bitch, godspeed, and past reviews for people like autechre, aphex, squarepusher, nin, etc.) to appear "fair and balanced".... like fox news.
