if it's music to somebody, it's music. noise is not not
music.

Anus_Presley > if you hit the table with a good rhythm, it
can become a beat for a song... maybe :)

merzbow made a track with a door.

Hitting the table in various ways to create tone is
music.Hitting it once is not.

Muisc.(noun):The art or sience of combiming vocal or
percussive (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and
expression of emotion.

imo, if something doesn't sound musical to a person, that
doesn't mean that it is not music. i don't know that i hear
music when i listen to this stuff, but i don't proclaim it
not music. i just try to appoach such things with a sense
that i have an subjective point of view, as do we all.

all music is noise, this music is just noisier than most,
still music depending on your perception. personally I like
some of it, its definately not for most people.

There's noise and there's noisy, it's easy for someone not
familiar with the style not to be able to tell the
difference.

A lot of the music I make these days is noise. I started out
making ambient stuff, but if you push the envelope of that
style far enough you end up in noise territory.

wow zeus, I never would have thought you would say stuff
like this about noise.

Noise music is branching out and evolving as we speak.

there is loads of different styles, glitch noise,
hardcore/drill noise (gabber), just plain ol noise.

"And dont get me wrong, Im all up for crazy sounds etc (see

my last peice "5 Interconnected Passageways)... but I
mean... just a wave of white noise.... come on. "

"but like... making white noise music is not hard.

Not hard at all"

The day when you make something even CLOSE to making orange
things.... or a decent rhythmic noise track... is the day I
eat my shoe and choke on it.

Making GOOD noise is not easy to do zeus.

There is good noise like squarepusher and venetian snares,
and alec empire....... and then there is bad noise like the
new thing released on warp.

" "i dont know what to do
to be the next innovator... i know... ill make pure noise
music!"

Its been around for a while man...... early avante garde
music.

You just have to have an open mind, everything you said
about noise music,

you could say about any genra of music. For instance "I dont
like ambient music because its just these dull long
tones.... dooooooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Over and over
agian, its like, hey lets be ground breaking, lets make the
most minimal ambient music.... the way you described noise,
you could put down any genra like that.

I think you just got pissed because you heard the shit track
playing on the warp site, and then decided you dont like
noise.

Confield is awesome. I cant believe you dont like it. I
think this is all pretty funny and ironic comming from a
person that makes minimal/avant garde ambient music.

you totally misread all of my posts.

i said i love autechre and SP.

i said noise works in certain conext.

the noise im refering to is, long drones of white noise. no
melody. no rythem... just loud static.

please go back and reread my posts.

nah noise is easy easy easy to make, just set up a Max patch
with a noise~ object, make the breakpoint short or long, add
some reverbs and delays, program the beat in, and you have
noise, its one object, and you don't really even do much
wave manipulation because its already done for you, its not
detailed, its sloppy, and you can just compress it to make
it sound like you know what your doing and are in controll.
straight up noise smack is for the weak. weak programmers
that is, if you like the sound, then have at it!

GOOD noise, is NOT east to make.

Just like anygood music.

People are talking so much shit on here its ridiculous.

The moment musicians are defined as good or bad dependng on
their programming skill is the day this style of music
disappears completely up its own arse.

There are enough styles for everyone to get what they want,
and it is not constructive to say shit like you hope this
style isn't the future of electronic music. It should be
part of the future of electronic music like all the other
styles currently being developed. Electronic music is a
constant progression and expansion and from day one I have
enjoyed the ride.

Wanna buy a monkey?

HAhaha, this is funny, because confield hardly has any
melodies and its almost the exact thing you are
describing.... "the noise im refering to is, long drones of
white noise. no
melody" I find this all pretty ironic and silly.

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-12-16 17:36 [#00482750]

there is lots of melody in confeild

as well as rhythm

when it comes to electronic music i do judge people on their
skills. don't get me wrong, if a song has a beautiful
melody, but shitty production, i will still dig it, but it
helps when everything is precise and in control, and a lot
of this depends on the artists ability to control their
sound.

please name me ONE track on confield that is just noise with
no rythem or melody.

just SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH like putting a radio on a
nonexistant station.

there isnt one. its all structured.

this Satanstronade crap is just long drones of
SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

no rythem at all. and im not even talking about a "groove"
there is no percussive elements. nothing expressive. its
just one constant long drone of white noise, just being
filtered here and there.

responding to other peoples methods of presenting their view
