does anyone know anything about this strange japanese
band?
i've heard that they sleep for 18 hours and fight
with each other the remaining 6 hours of the day.

... heh..

I saw them at ATP, theyre a great noise band, They play
drum sets at once, and have this really hyper weirdo workin
the sampler like a guitar.

dolleater, the band you saw was the voordoms (replace 'oo'
with infinity symbol). boredoms actually have guitars and
less drums, more members (five or six total). not that they
aren't related sounds. the girl on the drums is yoshimi.

chambre, if you're interested in my opinion i'd tell you
which release to check out.

brain literaly was somewhere else!

boredoms are among my favorites as well.

they're not a noise band at all - they're more a psychedelic
trancey rock band nowdays and they've now changed their
name to voredoms - they used to be more of a punk band but
they've gone quite tribal drunmmimg + electronics now - i
saw them live and they were incredible

offline jupitah from Minneapolis (United States) on 2002-12-05 13:07 [#00469527]
Points: 3489 Status: Lurker

astrid's got it right. they bagan as a fuck-all no wave
punk/noise ensemble, but they've evolved. particularly
important in their evolution might have been eye's trip to
india that he mentioned in some interview in nme.
apparently he watched a solar eclipse and was moved and all
that, and from that point on the music became very psychelic
and beautiful. very intense, but not noise at all.

chambre noire, i couldn't tell you what a good introduction
would be because the music i love them for is the most
recent stuff, far different from most of their catalogue. i
say get the most recent album, vision creation newsun. it's
one of the most exraordinary albums ever. i've heard a bit
from super are (or super ae, as it's printed some places, i
don't which it is) and it sounds nice, but i need to hear
more. there are some scattered live performances that are
nice as well. from their i'd say check out ooioo, one of
yoshimi's other bands (i believe the number of boredoms side
projects are in fact infinite). if you're interested in
earlier punk, noise, odd experimentation, i can't really
tell you what to check out as i'm not into it, but there are
some album reviews and links to other sites at
www.boredoms.co.uk.

version of a song by kioshi isumi who was in the boredoms -
the song is called effect rainbow and was on rephlex ages
ago -
thanks for the website link - i did'n tknow about that one

thanks jupitah - i just got the "super are", "vision
creation newsun" and also "chocolate synthesizer", all
amazing. quite different from one another but still with the
extremely bizzare musical style they have. it's extremely
good.
www.boredoms.co.uk seems to be out of order.. got any other
good sites?

i got it from these fellows who follow the boredoms around
the world, and picked it up after a boredoms concert, it was
a homemade silkscreen poster probably not many in print.
Its a wild poster with a nice live performance shot of eye
in it. :)

if you saw them at the recent atp in la, they were listed as
boredoms but it was actually the vooredoms. it's eye and
yoshimi and possibly others from the boredoms in a similar
band. but maybe you did see the boredoms and the show you
went to was not the one i mentioned. were there guitars?
as far as i know there are not multiple drum sets used for
boredoms but the vooredoms are specifically known for
consisting of three drummers and eye at the mic and synths
and tape manipulators (or whatever, i know little about
electronic equipment).

so how was the show anyway?

I saw the voredoms last summer at Fuji Rock Festival - three
drummers and lunatic waving a sampler. It was the most
boring thing all weekend - enlessly repetitive drumming and
same sample over and over and over while the lunatic guy
waved the sampler in the air for dramatic effect. Utterly
tedious.

Ive decided to answer after 5 moths of consideration. ;)

They were superb. Their shear intensity and wild stage
antics are reason enough to see them. The music was great of
course. 3rd best act at atp next to the merz and the twin.
