Here, we speak about industrial...

Okay, I open this Topic for speak and argue abou Industrial
music...
I'd like to know if you like it and which are your
favourites band?
Personally I like this kind of music very much, and my
favourite bands are NIN (obviously), Stabbing Westward (last
album isn't industrial), Rob Zombie (ex White Zombie),
Marilyn Manson (but I like his music but I don't like his
personality), Ministry, Ramstain (Germans) and Die Krupps
(they were greats, another German's band), Fear Factory (a
little bit rumorous but many songs are nice), etc...

I used to like industrial when it what still somewhat
innovative. NIN can't really be considered industrial
anymore (a good thing). Skinny Puppy is good and I still
listen to them..Wumpscut is...alright..I used to like him a
lot more, but now his cd's are collecting dust. Frankly most
things that are considered good that are also considered
industrial isn't industrial at all..Industrial is boring.

rF from a warm place on 2001-08-31 15:10 [#00028209]

NIN
Gravity Kills
Stabbing Westward
Filter (sort of industrial)
Razed In Black
Spew
Hellsau
Godheads
Carbon
Fear Factory
Ministry
6 am eternal

There are some excellent industrial artists on a compilation
that I have called "The Blackest Album - An industrial
tribute to Metallica"..

What IS industrial?

teapot from brisbane on 2001-08-31 15:15 [#00028211]

this is wierd.. im a regular at the nin.com messageboards,
and you guys talk about nin more than we do over there...

...strange? perhaps not.

Ellies on 2001-08-31 15:54 [#00028216]

that forum pretty much sucks..all the people over there seem
pretty incoherent..It's like an aol chat room..tragic..go to
digitalnoise.org. It's way better and it's about all the
artists on Nothing. My friend Jack is a mod over there.

teapot from brisbane on 2001-08-31 16:00 [#00028217]

hey i know who runs that site! im from hacman.nu, its in the
same community as digital noise... ive just never spent the
time in digital noise...

im addicted to this messageboard... frustrating coz not much
ever happens...

Ellies on 2001-08-31 17:53 [#00028243]

ahh..I take that back. Pigface was definitely cool..I think
everyone who was good in industrial was in that band at one
time or another.

I dunno there is some really cool industrial.. i think
industrial is a.. fucking damn sweet genre of tunes, lots of
variety there. NIN is not industrial anymore.. they used to
be though.

I like a lot of Industrial... Nin, Coil, Skinny Puppy,
Wumpscut or whatever.. I had 1 of their cds a while ago..
truth is, I cant find much of it in places. BUt i found a
shop not too far away where they hold lots of that stuff. I
give industrial a big two thumbs up.

f.l.e.a from habalaland on 2001-09-01 03:01 [#00028318]

um i am sorry but most of the bands mentioned here arent
quite what one would call Industrial..Coil absoulutely NIN
and Ministry to a diminished degree but the rest is just
metal with electronics

[REFLEX] from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-09-01 03:04 [#00028319]

True.. there is a fine line.

f.l.e.a from habalaland on 2001-09-02 07:22 [#00028616]

nothing comes close to the earlier Industrial...probably the
reason I took to I.D.M like a duck to water..it's got that
same wild, unpredictable sense of experimenatation, that
early Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA, Throbbing Gristle,
Einsturzende Neubauten, Lustmord etc..did...somewhere down
the line Industrial became about writing songs and getting
that booty on the floor..nothing wrong wit that
whatsoever..half my own stuff is about that...but nothing
beats the thrill of a song you have no bloody idea what it
would mutate into the next second..early Industrial and a
lot of current I.D.M's got that..the rest is just meat and
potatoes served with a side of distorted guitar..

rF from a warm place on 2001-09-02 07:38 [#00028618]

Basically, the industrial music that I make is heavily
distorted acoustic drums and layers of guitar with noise and
distorted vocals, occasionally evolving into piano pieces. I
haven't released any industrial stuff yet, I'm still
figuring out the vocal parts..

teapot from brisbane on 2001-09-02 07:50 [#00028620]

rF : id be really cautious with the vocal thing.. in my
opinion a lot of industrial bands dont mix well with their
singer... although im not a huge fan of singers... i prefer
instrumental music...

the only singers i really like are maynard:tool trent:nin
mike patton the sigur ros singer beth:portishead
thom:radiohead tricky and 3d and daddy G from massive attack

teapot from brisbane on 2001-09-02 07:51 [#00028621]

oh and richard d... that guy croons like a grandmaster

rF from a warm place on 2001-09-02 08:24 [#00028631]

er... there's only 2 people in my band:
rob (me) - vocals, guitars, production, keyboards
dirado - keyboards, production
so if i don't like my vocals, i guess we'll have to get
another singer... i'd like to get someone with a voice like
maynard from tool or maybe something more aggressive like al
jourgensen or something... anyway i'll be putting some of
the demos for my industrial stuff up soon (without vocals),
at zebox.com/artists/plegz.html

rF from a warm place on 2001-09-02 08:35 [#00028638]

My favourite vocalists at the moment would be:
Maynard James Keenan : Tool
Trent Reznor : NIN
Kud : Mudvayne (he's got an amazing singing voice, similar
to maynard tool)
Mike Patton (I especially like his 'adult themes for voice'
stuff)
Jeff Scheel : Gravity Kills
Nick Hexum : 311
SA Martinez : 311
Richard Patrick : Filter
James Hetfield : Metallica (...justice stuff)

...I try to make my voice sound like a mixture of all the
above people... it probably doesn't quite work out..

Justin Schiz from Aphex Land on 2001-09-02 08:38 [#00028639]

Rf, JEFF SCHEEL IS GOD

Evil Taxidentialist. from none on 2001-09-02 09:37 [#00028656]

Hmmm. What about skinny puppy? They baisically made the
genre.

Now its filled with silly pop icons and poorly written
music. What happened to real industrial music?

f.l.e.a from NZ on 2001-09-02 22:00 [#00028779]

to the baron:
um..Industrial existed long before Metropolis records...VAC
and Wumpscutt like most of Metropolis's roster is more like
Hard Trance with vocals..IMHO ofcoarse
