I'm glad he turned down Madonna. She's just a bandwagon-jumping harpy who obviously hoped some of his credibility would rub off on her.

Madonna should come to my house dressed like a cabbage patch kid and give me a blow job... she isn't even innovative...MASSIVE ATTACK, makes all her shit, and a couple other musicians! Check out the listings of people that helped her out on songs, you'll see all the motherfuckers that succumbed to her presence!!!

steve reich - weird. i guess it was the case with the reich remixed album. interesting. also bjork... really, they are friends? and the david bowie heroes remix, i guess this was more a favor to philip glass than to david bowie. it is a really beautiful remix, i heard a part of it on this site... aphex only took the track of the string parts from glass' heroes symphony (without percussion, winds and brass) and bowie's voice. the result is magical. is it available on cd by the way?
i would love to see a richard d. james remix ep. with the heroes remix, the sinking of the titanic remixes, the nine inch nail remix (this really is a fantastic piece) and perhaps the beck remix. would be great.

oh, wait. 2nd offer of steve reich after the sinking of the titanic? gavin bryars composed the sinking of the titanic, not steve reich. but i guess this was steve reich's first offer (reich remixed).

Bjork worships Aphex Twin and has for years been trying to get him to work with ehr even though they are friends.
Bjork ( quoted from various interviews and tv interviews ive seen and read) calls Aphex the King and the King of creativity and another one she said that she literally worships Aphex.
Remember (unknown to most) that Bjork had Aphex with her as her opening act in 1995 on her North-American tour, except that Aphex DJ'd and didnt play live...
Even the liner notes of Vesptertine ( Bjorks new album ) she thanks Richard ..

yeah, this electronic sound on vespertine is very much á la aphex, and this bjork worship of aphex is the explanation for that. great info. seems like as if richard is the most influential figure in music now... but i guess he does not care that much for it. he would say,' i reckon that this is not my fault.'

this steve reich thing is interesting. nonesuch, the label wanted the remix album, not reich himself. they made their offers to a lot of artists, and reich finally chose the tracks he liked (coldcut, ken ishii, andrea parker and others appeared on tha album). so aphex, too, was someone nonesuch wanted for a remix, but he declined. i would like to know if they did make an offer to dj shadow (parts of endtroducing are very much like reich's music).

I am curious as to what exactly Richard did in remixing Heroes, I've never heard the original song, but the remix of the song is stunning. The only thing I hear in the song that it sounds like Richard did was add a tad bit of atmospherics and did some small effects to his voice here and there, but then again like i said ive never heard the original...

with palpatine i meant sido-dyas, of course. you are overthrowing the republic with your clone army, aren't you?
i guess in heroes there's only bowie's voice, the string parts from the first movement of glass' heroes symphony (and actually the strings alone sound much more beautiful that the full orchestration of the piece - strange), and some atmospheric effects, nothing more. weird.

Bowie is probably my single favorite solo artist besides Aphex as I have his whole collection rare and all that...
While I was talking with him on his own personal website chatline www.davidbowie.com ( its a pay site) since he actually comes and talks online there quite often and he does admit that the Aphex remix is one of his favorites.
The remix is brilliant IMO..... Heroes is from his 1978 Eno co-written album called "Heroes"..
One of the Eno/Bowie trilogy albums starting with Low then Heroes then Lodger which were total groundbreaking avant/garde electronic albums...
Seriously also one of the very influential albums for the electronic music scene unknown to many.
On Low and Heroes, both have I side singing the other sides were both Ambient...
Have a listen if ya can...these albums were the Radiohead Kid A's and Amnesiacs of the late 70's....

philip glass said exactly this about low, heroes and lodger (with the exception of the mentioning kid a). i listened to the albums and i liked them, and reckognized the themes which glass used in the symphonies. in his symphony no.1 glass used themes/melodies from low, and in his symphony no.4 he did the same with heroes. i don't think that they are glass' best symphonies, though (my favourite are glass symphonies no.2 and 3), but they are both very good, anyway (no.1 is a lot better than no.4, actually). in no.1 there are exact orchestrations of parts from low (comparable to the orchestration of aphex icct hedral), but in no.4, the influence from the actual bowie/eno album is not that easy to reckognize... but in aphex' remix you can hear how glass composed along the melodic lines of bowie's vocals - so it's an amazing bowie-glass-aphex collaboration. glass is planing a third symphony after bowie/eno with lodger (as perhaps philip glass symphony no.7). he said it would be a vocal symphony, so it could be a choral symphony or even a symphony with david bowie as vocalist.

all bjorks new album is her with maltmos.
i don't know why richard turns down so much of that. i'd be honoured to be asked by bowie to do another remix, or the cure.... bjork...... i don't know why he wouldn't. maybe just to try and not be to popular. which sucks, cause there's so much cool shit he could do that he dosen't............... i want to know what top 40 hits he's had under other names or fwritten for other people......... i hope he lets his secret out one day.

just sat through the debacle that's Madonna's Drowned World live tour with my jaw dropped...how could a single monotone media blip like her systematically trample and destroy every single alternative subcultural refrencing system most people my age (Gen X) got involved in...Punk,Goth, Alt Indie Rock,Industrial, Techno, Electronica, I.D.M not not mention performance art, Hong Kong Action Flicks, manga and anime in the space of a couple of hours before launching into her redneck rodeo themepark...I mean U2 were bad with swiping cultures with the Zoo TV but this..was...CRIMINAL...!!!!
good on RDJ for recognizing what she is...a danger to brain cells... period!!
I will have to gently disagree with r3fl3x here..she didn't create any band wagons that night mate..she just rounded them all up..and had a good ole footstompin, line dancing bonfire..YeeFuckingHaw..sob
