SQUAREPUSHER , MUSIC IS ROTTED ONE NOTE

QUADRAPELEGICROBOTIKEV from ardmore on 2001-08-30 17:08 [#00027858]

I JUST BOUGHT THIS ALBUM YESTERDAY AND I HAVE TO SAY I'M
VERY DISSAPOINTED...FOR ONE THING ITS NOT EVEN 50 MINUTES.
THE OTHER THING IS THERE'S ONLY LIKE THREE GOOD TRACKS AND
ITS MOSTLY LIVE JAZZ MIXED WITH SHIT (THOSE HORRIBLE TOO
MUCH NOISE SOUND EFFECTS)! CAN SOMEBODY PLEAZE TELL ME IF
ANY OF THE OTHER ALBUMS ARE BETTER THAN THIS, AND WHAT
ALBUMS?

thanks, another question, i'm told some of his stuff is
drill and bass...what albums are drill and bass?

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-30 17:19 [#00027863]

i think his stuff is more drum and bass. maybe his new album
"go plastic!" is more drill and bass. i haven't heard to
much of it though, so i'm not sure.

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-30 17:20 [#00027865]

"come on my selector" off of "big loada" is drill n' bass
i'd say.

thanx, i'm definately getting big loada

the second track off of big loada, "a journey to reedham (7
a.m. mix)" is real good too.

love 'em all
SP makes me cry
NOBODY does it for me like SP....my neurons implode, spine
contracts, neck twitches....

Go Plastic is great. The single My Red Hot Car is just a
perfect pop radio-friendly tune. And "I Wish You Could Talk"
is one of the greatest songs I've heard this year. If you
like mp3-format-music, download that song, you'll definitely
like it.

any recommendations for his CHAOS AD shit?

ded_zero from kenosha, wi on 2001-08-30 20:04 [#00027931]

i love music is rotted on note, its so diverse from anything
i've ever heard. thats my opinion, hence i am not telling
you to like it thats all.

SlopJ from Cincinnati, OH on 2001-08-30 20:47 [#00027935]

"Music is Rotted . ." was not the ideal place to start with
SP, but better than nothing. "Chaos AD" is dark and hard as
hell. It's a grueling listen but I rank it in the upper
echelon of his stuff. "Theme from Ernest Borgnine" is off
"Feed Me Weird Things."

"i wish you could talk" is one of his most beautifull songs
ever!!!!!!

I've recently got into SP and have go plastic, big loada and
hard normal. All are fantastic and i'm intersted in buying
budakhan and music is.. but i'm a little put off by the jazz
edge i've heard they've got. Are they recognisably SP or
should I get feed me weird things, buzz caner or burning
tree instead. Agree with 'wish i could talk' as a stunningly
beautiful piece of music though

Big Loada or Feed Me Weird Things would be the best 2 CDs to
get from Squarepusher. Also his best pieces of Work. Hard
Normal Daddy is good for that as well.

"music is..." was my first squarepusher cd too, and yes when
i first got it i was a bit disappointed that it wasn't the
drill n bass i had heard that he was known for..
so within the next few weeks i got feed me weird things, and
really liked it.(still do) within like 3 months i had
collected almost all of his major releases and i slowly
began to appreciate "MIRON". now its one of my favorite
albums of any artist. sure, its very different from his
other stuff, but i think thats what makes it such a special
album. i think that the use of live instruments and
recording make it a much more personal album than his others
(not that his others aren't..). its definately one of the
most emotionally intense albums i own, i've always thought
that it was like the musical equivalent of a mental
breakdown.. it also probably has some of the best track
sequencing i've ever heard..it starts off somewhat playful,
and then just as 'dont go plastic' kicks in it becomes realy
ominous and slowly builds in intensity until it reaches sort
of a climax with circular flexing and the track after
it...(dust switch? i forget the name..) and then theres the
emotional catharsis of 'my sound', and the rest of the
album, its like he goes back to joking around as if
everyhings ok again...

well, thats what i think about the album...
basically what i'm saying is, give it a while, get used to
his other stuff and you may begin to appreciate this one
more...
its like squarepusher's equivilent to "SAW2" or "confield"

I quite dig "Selection Sixteen" too...plenty of drilling on
that one :)
I agree with rest
feed me weird things
big loada
hard normal daddy
selection sixteen
that's the way to go...I think his albums make a bit more
sense if you hear em in the logical progression...IMHO of
coarse

i like the one called my sound.
that song is fucking beautiful.
you might mostly be dissapointed because you were expecting
something else. i'd say, put the album down for a week or so
and listen to it some other time as background music like
when you have your droogs over or some shit and are not
really paying attention. then you might be caught off guard
and someting will catch your ear and maybe you will like it.
or maybe... i am talking out of my arse. yeah thats probably
it..

QUADRAPELEGICROBOTIKEV from ardmore on 2001-08-31 02:16 [#00028041]
