does anyone have knowledge of electronic circuits ?

i have purchased a small kit from maplins that makes animal
sounds

if i alter the resistance will the sounds change or will the
circuit blow up ?

Altering the resistance only changes the volume of the
sound, not pitch or dynamics. There are some interesting
effects you can get by putting capacitors and inductors in
series/parallel with the sound generators, as you can get
low/high/bandpass and bandstop filters on the individual
sounds... By putting a diode in series after the sound
generator, you can get a nice gravel-ish distortion, because
it only lets current pass one way, therefore it clips off
the bottom half of the waveform..

what i want to make is a box using this circuit as the
starting point

would a potentiometer only changed the pitch, if so, is it
possible to get dioded and capacitors that alloe me to alter
the sound output by turning a dial?

ie - a variable diode / variable capacitor ?

thanks again

A potentiometer would only alter the volume of the sound..
Variable diodes do not exist, they are simply components
that only let current through one way.
I have a simple distortion circuit diagram, if you want me
to send it to you.. I also have some other effects, like
amplitude modulation (the volume of the sound follows a
preset waveform, either sine, square or sawtooth)..

Pitch shifting of a waveform is very hard to do with analog
circuits, it has to be done with DSP (digital signal
processing), although a tone control would be easy enough to
make (by putting a parallel potentiometer/capacitor
combination in series with the sound generator). I have
circuit diagrams of this if you want any help.

I also have the complete circuit diagram of a 303, I'm
planning on building one for myself. I will of course modify
it, putting in distortion, delay, etc..

Just e-mail me if you want any circuit diagrams, I'll sort
you out.

yes please rob

i would love the 303 diagram

i tried to e-mail you but it would not work

here is mine
