Autechre Cornfield

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:05 [#00027197]

Just a little break from all this banta :)...

I bought this album coz Autechre has been recommended to me
by so many people. Quite frankly I\'m extreamly dissapointed
and I\'m off to take it back to the shop. I\'m hoping that
the other albums will be better and actually have a bit of a
tune to them as opposed to a CD full of noises.

My friend ( who has other Autechre albums ) said for me to
buy one of theirs. He listened to it and thought it was shit
and told me to take it back.

The point is everyone ( sorry, bit drawn out this post )
What do you all think of Cornfield and will I be
dissapointed with the others if this one is anything to go
by?

Thanks.

Geonime on 2001-08-29 12:07 [#00027198]

it's called CONfield, no R.

Lp5/tri rep/ep7 are better. If you get used to confield,
many of the songs are much better.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:09 [#00027203]

oh yea.... so it is..... >.<

damn it... somebody looks very stupid right now :|

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:14 [#00027210]

come to think of it.... Cornfield sounds pretty dumb...

That reminds me... is track 5 on RDJ Corn Mouth or Carn
Marth? His handwriting wasnt good was it? :)

Geonime on 2001-08-29 12:15 [#00027212]

corn mouth I think.

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-29 12:20 [#00027219]

I dunno about that. But uhm Confield is pretty good after
about 1 month of it..... its one of the worts autechre cds
IMO, but.. its good still. The ones MmMmMmmm..... suggested
are the best..... Incanabula is amazing.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:23 [#00027224]

k... I'm gonna go off for the old swap in 5 mins, but I

Autechre have been pushed into a tight corner by every geek
with a laptop copying their every move, so they've ended up
having to do shite tuneless horribleness just to stay ahead
of the game. Hopefully they'll give up on being on the
cutting edge all the time and go back to writing a melody
now and then.

176% from a maths trouser. on 2001-08-29 12:26 [#00027228]

Get Surfing On Sinewaves, it's fifteen times better than
that Confield guff.

176% from a maths trouser. on 2001-08-29 12:27 [#00027231]

Oh I see what you mean... Anyways, Surfing... is still eight
times better than any Autechre album. Except maybe LP5.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:35 [#00027243]

Man this subject title looks so lame'o' now. friggin
Cornfields!?!? Damn me to hell and a bit further...... makes
em soud like a bunch of inbred farmers now.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 12:38 [#00027246]

I'm gonna get rid of this shit now and get another one.

teapot from brisbane on 2001-08-29 13:13 [#00027274]

my god! an album full of noises? i love confield, it might
be autechres most unlistenable album, but i think at the
same time its their best. but if you dont like confield,
dont give up on autechre... get LP5 thats fantastic... very
melodic :)

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-08-29 13:31 [#00027280]

I love Confield but it differs A LOT from previous releases
tho. You can't compare them.

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-29 13:55 [#00027283]

CONFIELD!!!!

Where is the melodies on that album?

I was so dam stupid that I bought that piece of CRAP!

Its the worst album in my whole album collection, avant
garde...yeah eat dick.

My litte sister (10 years old) was fucking around with
Fruity and cool edit and the result sounded exactly like
some of the Autechre tracks on Confield.

Autechre must be on crack or something, you cant call that
bullshit MUSIC!!! And Im going to kill that bastard who said
"go get the new Autechre album, Its bangin!"

I want music not just annoying noise.

And to those who like Confield....eat a dick.

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-29 13:56 [#00027284]

Uvivol is the only track on the whole album the others is
just.....I dont know, some kinda annoying noize or
something...

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-29 13:57 [#00027286]

If you want melodies you better cop DrukQs, thats what I
call music.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 14:00 [#00027288]

Everyone? I've not given up! The trade is complet and I now
possess a copy of tri repetae and I'm gonna listen to it
now.... see you all on the other side :)

Earface from the ever fleeting past on 2001-08-29 14:01 [#00027289]

YES. Confield is definitely my most favourite electronica
album. I think that it is amazing. It is so catharthic in
the way it pushes you to listen to music in a different,
more innovative way by offering some really hard, sometimes
abrasive, exiting new sounds.

I like falling to sleep with it on repeat. When I wake up my
head feels so clear and imaginative.

DO NOT TAKE IT BACK. I'm sure you'll wish you hadn't after
some time (I took SAW II back because it did not impress me
at the time and now I am seriously regretting it).

teapot from brisbane on 2001-08-29 14:18 [#00027301]

its a fucking masterpiece.

no serously...

im really liking boards of canada a lot too... anyone know
any good websites for BOC, i cant find any :(

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 14:33 [#00027309]

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-29 14:48 [#00027316]

Hm.... well you like the other Autechre albums? They are
great! .... hey Chrispy...... get some others I suggest LP5
youll love it!

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 14:54 [#00027317]

Smart! This one is so much better! Right from track one!!!

Earface: Dont worry buddy. If I feel like I shouldnt've done
it; I'll go and buy it sometime... I've said before that my
HMV is wicked and stocks some good music so I should be
alright.

I didnt hate confield, I just felt like I wouldnt notice if
I turned it off coz I felt like it wasnt going anywhere...
anywayz!!! ON WITH THE TRI REPETAE SHOW!!!

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 14:59 [#00027321]

Lp5? I saw that!!! :) Buying alotta CDs recently though!.

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-29 15:05 [#00027323]

..... really wonderful.

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 16:00 [#00027337]

I still hate this subject title. Makes me sound like a right
ol' bishop belter! I was Phobiazero could change it...

Chrispy from UK on 2001-08-29 16:52 [#00027349]

cool. Aphex lovas are evenly spread though the UK!

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-29 16:54 [#00027350]

go pick up lp5 and ep7. if you like autechre, you may want
to check out jega, particularly the geometry album. not
quite as complex as autechre, but still very good. also
brothomstates ep qtio.

r3fl3x from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-29 16:55 [#00027351]

the only jega album i have is geometry.. its brilliant.

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-08-29 21:49 [#00027598]

dont forget amber....a bit like tri repetae
but a little more on the ambient side
beautiful disc regardless
as is incunabula

hagsjakdahgweqr on 2001-08-29 23:26 [#00027642]

I find ep7 to be the most unlistenable autechre. confield
is my favorite. it's certainly no rdj album, but its not
shite, just not to everyone's taste.

sandcrab from USAAAA on 2001-08-30 01:54 [#00027682]

to above.. thats insane
maphive and zeiss contarex are the baddest tracks...

mommentum from Skopje on 2001-08-30 04:18 [#00027701]

ppl who don't dig confield were probably disappointed by
saw2, too.

try listening to some pan(a)sonic, instead.

confield is great, double figure is brilliant, geometry is
easy listening =)

hagsjakdahgweqr on 2001-08-30 05:47 [#00027725]

admittedly i don't spend a whole lot of time with ep7, but i
like how confield moves back from completely abstract sounds
to drum machine-y beats and takes the abstraction on a
rhythmic and compositional level instead. i got tired of
excessive glitch for a while. although i kinda am digging
clicks and cuts 2, disc one at least so far.

hamster fodder from umiol on 2001-08-30 06:48 [#00027734]

well. confield in my opinion is very good (maybe not the
best autechre) but definetly good. Infact, I recently
listened to it after a while not listening to it .. and it
was really really rephreshing.. if this is a way to describe
it.

however, it probably istn' the best entry level album to
buy. The earlier stuff is a lot easier to get into .. but
then maybe the reward isnt quite as high (not entirely
true).. but yeah, incunabula is cool (re: reflex), LP5 is
probably the best to enter in on - for a autechre virgin, it
would sound quite out there and is quite nice to listen to.
EP7 i quite like .. fuck blah blah blah .

basically .. although confield is an intense somewhat
difficult record to get to grips with (basically you should
just go along with it - bean bag and headphones .. ) - but
it doesn't deserve all this "avant" bollicking crap.

there

latter ep7 is very cool ..

so is the hidden track

Old one here....

For those involved in this topic long ago: I've now
re-bought this album and........ I actually like several
tracks. How very strange these turn of events are, hmm?

;)

(I still can't believe I called it Cornfield!)

CONFIELD!!!
almost every song on Confield has a melody, but they're so
abstract you didn't notice them on the first listen!!!
Should have let it grow on you. I liked it from the first
listen, recognized genius right away.
