pretty the same thing that those lyrics say.

uhh, yes. exact same, the part about where the body goes
after death.

"to sleep perchance to dream. ay theres the rub for in that
sleep of death what dreams may come, must give us pause.
theres the respect that makes calamity of such a long
life....."

1. that's just one of many elements of the lyrics
2. it's a pretty logical question. i'm not saying last
emperor didn't read hamlet; he's a pretty well-read
individual. however what i am saying is that one need not
read hamlet to think of the question. last emp's a profound
thinker, as evident in his other songs.
3. it's kinda rude to be disrespecting a song about a guy
(poetic) dying of fucking cancer. i mean this is his last
message to the world (last song ever recorded), can't you
appreciate that instead of ripping it apart based on a minor
coincidence? i'm sorry to be angry but this is a really
amazing song and it deserves better than that.

ahh, the glory of message boards, one can never understand
tone. sorry, i wasn't disrespecting that guy at all, i was
just saying it sounded familair to that solilquy. actually
to be honest, that shit gave me the chills, i really like
it.

yea the lyrics are really powerful. be sure to check out the
actual song as well, though (even people who don't like
hip-hop will like this song, unless they're completely
emotionally detached idm snobs). the lyrics are delivered
with grace and raw emotion and the music is really
appropriate (acoustic guitar, violins, rain and thunder).

this song made me shed a few tears......especially when he
described the pain of the disease. you could feel it through
his words.

this is an important song that should be heard. it's a damn
shame it hasn't apparently been released...

these are songs that leave a mark in your heart and
soul......the sound of the rain and the lovely (almost irish
sounding violins) were so mornful....=/

R.I.P. Poetic!

Bump.

Yeah, Esthero is a Canucklehead, saw her vid on MMusic once,
a loooooong time ago. I avoid that channel like the plague
now though! I like Muchmoremusic better, heh. Lot's of
guilty pleasure VH1 specials.

Yeah, that was a very nice song. Too bad this isn't the kind
of hip-hop that gets played on every station and every
wigga's car downtown.

My grandmother had breast cancer, she laid the smackdown on
it in no time though. My grandmother could kick my ass.

i love esthero.. i finally found a good fan site for her

this song is great. it's an interesting mix of a black guy
with a WEIRD voice (R.I.P. poetic), another black guy who
talks like a scholar or philosopher, a white canadian
trip-hop singer, and irish fiddles/violins over hip-hop
beats and thunder. it goes over really well.

I dislike your pretentious nature that if YOU say this is a
good song, only an uneducated idm snob wouldn't enjoy it.

different strokes man, you know this. And believe it or not
death doesn't move everyone the same way it might move you.

-------
that said, my grandmother died of cancer a month ago, and I
particular enjoyed the reality of the pain apparent in this
song.

my favorite lines (you have to hear him say them to get the
full effect):
Me and death is playin chess
Ever since then
My strength is the most high, my fam and close friends
The Last Emp been sent free blessed me with a verse
Stayin healthy comes first, look at me, things can be
worse

not to take away from the beauty of this song, but a song on
common's most recent album also deals with a loved one dying
of cancer. the 2nd verse of "between me, you & liberation"
(as much as i can paste before getting cut off):

She laid, I watched her breathe
Happy to be here, not afraid to leave
I couldn't concieve her not being here
Death in her face her not having fear
Less than a year she was diagnosed with it
Memories of that year, so close and vivid
Happiness, would only visit, once in a while
To watch an adult, becoming a child
Somehow, I knew she'd make it
The life of one so given early would God take it?
Hurt she placed in, hope and prayer
Hurt she placed in chemo and lost hair
I stare with my eyes closed
Wonder when the body leave does the mind go
Watchin' Jordan became less important
Seeing this disease eat away my aunt's organs
According to doctors theres no cure
We went through doubt, and cases of insure
Wish I knew then how to heal with herbs
Knew a part of her I could heal with words
But the (?) was (?)
What seemed like the end was the beginning for her
Like that, she didn't want us to remember her
No more medication did she want us to give to her
It spread from her liver to her lungs to her last breath
Only to be freed through death
Between me and you (echo)

It was okay i guess... but i didn't really like it.

That first verse in particular was not so good. I disliked
the lyrics (i like it when lyrics leave at least some room
for interpretation... for him just to say: "A meaningless
death Made me question the meaning of life.", that would
have been enough. I don't like the way how after that he
spells out exactly what he means and sums up all these
explanations of what might happen after we die.

The 2nd verse was better though. (also because i read that
story on the link you posted)... i guess you just listen
differently to something once you know it's the last song he
ever recorded. And he's so personal too... i feel almost
embarassed, like i'm reading his personal diary. That part
managed to touch me. But otherwise i thought the music was a
little boring.

last emperor is very verbose, i can see why you wouldn't
like his lyrics, they're not open to much interpretation.
you should check out his song "secret wars", it's quite a
classic. he takes like 50 comic book characters and compares
them to different rappers and makes a sort of war through
his lyrics. it's really creative!

and as for poetic's verse, i get the same feeling as you.
really concentrating on his voice and lyrics gives me a lump
in my throat. it's very intimate and sad but it's good that
he died in some level of peace.

That does sound fun :-)
But i hardly know any rappers though... i think if you're a
little bit familiar with the "scene", it would be even
better. But i might give it a listen anyway... or at least
try to find the lyrics.

yeah I hate it when people do that (have had it happen to me
too, although on less 'heavy' subject matter).

although you mean stuff like that at the time, it is also
something of the moment. you express yourself in a way and
people assume that is EXACTLY what you mean FOR THE REST OF
ETERNITY. :)

yea.. like LeCoeur said, i was frustrated people here
wouldn't give it a chance. people think it bothers me that
people don't like all the music i like but that's not so..
it bothers me when people who pride themselves on listening
to unusual music are too closeminded to even give something
else a listen..

anyway let's not dwell on this, this song deserves better
than that

wow, sorry for quoting you, didn't mean to blow that out of
proportion.
bottom line: i like the song.
and i don't like it when people quote me either, because,
like in normal conversation, i say things i don't always
mean. anyway, the lyrics are pretty moving and i like the
second verse alot.

The echoing halls resounded through and through with the
keening of women, whose wails and shrieks beat at the golden
stars. Mothers, distracted with fear, were wandering about
the palace, clinging tight to its doorposts and kissing them
goodbye.

when I think of myself dead
I think of automobiles parked in a
parking lot

when I think of myself dead
I think of frying pans

when I think of myself dead
I think of somebody making love to you
when I'm not around

when I think of myself dead
I have trouble breathing

when I think of myself dead
I think of all the people waiting to die

when I think of myself dead
I think I wouldn't be able to drink water anymore

when I think of myself dead
the air goes all white

the roaches in my kitchen
tremble

and somebody will have to throw
my clean and dirty underwear
away.
