After listening to Drukqs 20 times , w/ and w/out headphones and a random times and locations, I have the following observations to make.
1.Drukqs is Warps last Aphex balloon, and I mean a hotair ballon at that
2.Drukqs contain no new raw materials(meaning the essential elements of the songs themselves apart from added fine-tuned details)
3.Drukqs is Aphex Twins final Warp release as hinted at in point 1.
Its been publically stated by The Aphex Twin that his relationship with Warp records had gone from the sugar-sweet taste of Mothers milk to the rotting spoils of a carton left out. Any employee in a sticky situation with ones employers at work is bound to loose incentive to perform efficently, let alone provide creative input in his job situation. This has been manifested as plainly as shadow in sunshine when 'Come to Daddy' was released. His music went from raw subconcious talent, to a buisness, and finally to a show, a spectalcle of sorts. From the music itself to the marketing strategies implimented it was obvious that Richard D. James had gone corperate for the sake of exposing the Warp records label for what it had become. Then a two year lapse which felt like an eternity to this fan produced Windowlicker, a three track EP. The music and marketing was taken to new sarcastic heights with both the lack of material and the Aphex face icon.
After two more years Drukqs is released to most of us via the net and the content is plainly a filler to technically, with the amount of material released on the double disc album, break the contract with Warp perminently. The specifics of this will be described further on.
This brings me to my second observation, that being the lack of new material. Most of the uptempo songs on Drukqs were clearly created between the HABI and II to the RDJ Album periods. This can be easily seen by the quality of the recordings on most of the high-tempo tracks along with the samples themselves. Even some of the signature style drill and bass fills and flange techniques are there. The only new aspect I can see from the fast tracks are a Bogdan Rhakzynski style basskick, that being a hard overdriven TR909, and the same distortion harmonics Bogdan creates. But these few changes are what I earlier called the fine-tuned details. A few extra layers upon an already made track. These tracks are the most enjoyable to me personally since some of my favorite works by The Aphex Twin are from '95-'96. But it still remains that the only thing new about these tracks are that they are now available to the public.
The down-tempo tracks off Drukqs are watered-down piano fillers reminiscent of Brian Eno and Eric Satie at their more vunerable states. Even track six off disc one makes us wonder if this is yet another leftover SAW track that was found in the scrapbox by mistake. These tracks are the blatant scoff at Warp to rid its ugly nose out of his life and music. A few are descent tracks melodically but arent worth the pretty price attatched to your in-store copy of the double disc.
And finally rounding things up with the fact that Richard and Warp are fire and water eternally. What does this mean for Aphex fans around the globe? Will it be more difficult to obtain material from AFX now that the distribution he had from Warp will be no more? Or will it finally mean that those most sought after releases such as CAT023 Caustic Window album or ABB5 will see the official light of day? I see only bright sunshine ahead now that the master has assumed his most glorious, worthy throne. After all, a master in slaves robes is a disaster for the subjects.

What's funny about your post is how you saying ther'es no new songs. One of the track's has his mum & dad on it and they sing him happy birthday. But I noticed his mum says happy 28'th birthday. He's now 30 which mean's even the birthday song is old. hahahahaha

that was......... yeah.
ok. well i think the album sounds great.
i don't really care about his relationship with warp or whatever, just as long as he continues to put out music. he should just post them on a website. i'd be more than happy with that.

Fuck Warp records. Fuck Aphex Twin. He should but the damn label seeing his music is so fucking commercial. What an insult to his fans to release music thats as old as 95 w/ nothing more than a slightly fancier signature. This fan is not impressed w/ Drukqs and I hope Warp goes bankrupt and Aphex goes away. Fuck off

I encourage the entire AFX community to dl this peice of shit album so that Warp doesnt make a dime. Im convinced if I spoke w/ Richard personally hed say the same. He'll make enough just off the promo bullshit and video to eat like a king for a couple of years. And theres big plans for Men1 anyhow, seeing that Rephlex has felt the taints of music theives like yourself. So yes, steal this fucko album and sell it to all your idiotic Aphexians. Then kill yourself.

i think it quite strange how you are all flaming Aphex, yet a few months ago you liked him etc.. i like Drukqs, yes i downloaded it, yes i will buy it, just like every release i can possibly find, i think this goes to show who the real fans are here. but i shouldn't be on to talk on whos fans of what are, and i could care less if the tracks from drukqs are old. SO WHAT? that makes them bad now? well then you might as well go slam every release you've bought.

i totally agree with zero. kinda funny how weve been friends anyway. but just because he releases old shit doesnt mean he doesnt care.
if id been doin music as long as him and didnt release like every track ive done and had years of recordings sitting in boxes only ive heard
then to go back and listen to a track i didnt deem worthy to be released and now i change my mind seeing as how people change constantly. 'hey this sucks.' five years later: 'actually i like this'
i dont think hes releasing music for what other people want. i think its what he wants.
take for example the piano tracks they arent so abundant on his other albums no ones saying "HEY RICHARD GIVE US SOME PIANO TRACKS". he chose to do it. its his fucking mindset.
hey his relations with warp might be one thing. but that doesnt mean hes going to release an album of stuff he deems shit just to piss them off. ramble ramble ramble. but thats just my opinion i could be wrong.

"...all of you bashing"?
there's 2 bashing him man. and one of them is a guy who's been bashing everything he could tonight.
i don't think that someone buying more afx records than another makes them any more a fan....
i don't think burning the cd's as opposed to buying them makes you any less of a fan either. i've burnt a ton of cure albums, but that dosen't make me any less of a fan. i still buy as much music as i have money for, i just but the smaller bands albums. cause not everyone has alot of money to spend on new cd's........

yea zero and i was just talking about that how he probally read what we were talking about on here about it
and decided to fuck with us a little by 'leaking' 'drukqs' to us at least we (well *i* do since im _evil_ and have the mp3s) know 54 cymru beats is real. but maybe drukqs is a total mindplay.
nothings a sure thing about it. what if in two monthes we go out and buy it and it turns out to be something completly different.
who knows.

I dont know what all the fuss is about? Drukqs is the best material relesed by AFX so far. His new style pushes IDM beyond the limits and leaves all the wannabees in the dust. I cant wait till he does a video for this album. Just think, maybe hell plaster his godly grin all over tiny cell phone chips produced by Fuji that are implanted in the earlobe and are voice-activated. Did I just say that? Shit. Uh, well maybe there wont be a video, or a 5=6 =[

Aphex Twin only releases old material. It's what hes done from the start. Filler tracks? Oh yeah? Drukqs is a great record. It's RDJs most diverse work yet, so many styles! And it flows really well if you play it from start to finish. Well lush.
Oh and by the way, there hasn't been any official word from anyone about this being RDJs final record. So there!

I think some of us here have missed Anonymous point. I dont think Anonymous trying to say its bad that the songs are old, I think its just an observation that he doesnt care much about what is released on Warp. Im sure most everyone here, if given the choice, would rather hear new material over old stuff.

I would have to agree w/ dotcom on that point. New material is what weve all been waiting for and what do we get? Good music yes, but good old music. I want to know what hes been doing for the last 3 years. Not what was collecting dust unless were talking CAT023.
