Is it shit or is a hit?

Gypsy Palm Reader from a lovely caravan on 2001-08-24 10:25 [#00025368]

To all the people who have dodgy downloaded the leaked
drukqs album -

What's it like then? Any good? Same old styles or new and
sexy?

Gypsy Palm Reader from a lovely caravan on 2001-08-24 10:26 [#00025369]

That sentence doesn't quite make sense, but you get my
drift.

Matt from NZ on 2001-08-24 10:32 [#00025370]

It's kinda like hearing selected ambient works II for the
first time, and going 'what the fuck?', but then falling in
love with it. :) Sort of.

Gypsy Palm Reader from a lovely caravan on 2001-08-24 10:36 [#00025373]

Is it harsh? Tuneful or rhythmic? Is he still doing fucking
drill n bass or has he got the fonk these days?

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-24 11:19 [#00025385]

DrukQs is easily his best album so far!!!

With this album he seems to please everyone, ambient tracks,
gabbber tracks, soft tracks, hard tracks its like a best of
that AFX style album.

I only heard disc one and that CD beats all his other cds.
If CD 2 has the same quality its not even funny (but I save
that CD to oct 22).

Im a little scared that its so easy to fall in love with
this album (only after listen to it three times its my
favourite) its his most accesible album so far (I love it,
you will love it).

Peace

Cool. As much as I love his 'difficult' stuff, it's the
accessible stuff I play over and over again (Windowlicker,
On etc.). Call me a lightweight, but that's the stuff I
love...

PostModernVancouver from Vancouver,Canada on 2001-08-24 13:21 [#00025419]

fantastic album, and yes, even the first disc is better then
anything else released this year, even though it is fairly
accesible.
Beautiful melodies in the fore and background.
Yes, some of it is stuff like hes never done before, some of
it is all of his stuff combined.

dozer on 2001-08-24 13:51 [#00025422]

ive only heard about 3 songs of CD1. that first song is
fantastic, very chilled and beautiful.

chaosmachine from toronto on 2001-08-24 17:24 [#00025453]

it's absolutely brilliant.

it's got all the old aphex styles, and new ones too..
ambient, hardcore techno beats, drill and base, short little
samples of his mum, classical piano pieces.. and more..

it's so good.. :)

I love it so much that I just keep replying, but it blows
all the WARP albums by all the others right out of the
water, and yes, that includes Squarepusher, Plaid and
Autechre.
Plaid's new album still being my favorite this year until
ofcourse I heard DRUQKS.
Aphex once again shows that EVERY other artist is again just
merely his disciple as he is a god on his throne.
All of these so called new contenders to his throne have all
been deleted by this album.
That includes everyone from Kid 606, Richard ( im so
overrated) Devine, Jega, Phoenecia, Ovuca, Bogdan, etc...
They are pushed back a few more lightyears with the release
of DrukQs....

it really sucks ass.
way too much banjo and accordian on this one and he seems to
have gone a little over board with the r'n'b diva vocal
harmonies. i especailly hate the song about the rough time
he had of it in high school. teen age angst has paid off
well but now he is board and old. i never took RDJ as a
goth bat caver so the second disc really came as a surprise
with all the macabre chanting and melting candle/hourglass
references. the song about him drinking 40's in the hood
with his homies was a delight however and probably one of
the only shining moments on this otherwise dreary album. RDJ
should just keep his hands out of the gothic/zydeco
movement.

Barrett, Syd from Toronto on 2001-08-24 19:10 [#00025468]

he never kept is a secret that money is something he enjoys
getting for his music. i think the whole goth thing was
kinda going to far.

and what you said about being a kid in highschool? totally
agree. it sounds like days of the new doing techno or
something. fuckin terrible.

but there are good tracks. like the one about 40's and the
other one about groupies............

Sepix from european realm on 2001-08-24 19:12 [#00025469]

i`m surprised with the tracks.
quite same like tom`s style change. harder and more weird
... i still need acouple of days getting into it ....

and 4 100% it`s NOT easy accesible !

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-24 19:30 [#00025471]

my father loves this album....he hates all other AFX albums,
hmmmm its pretty accesible...but for Britney spears
fans...hhmmm think not.

but I understand what you mean the hardcore tracks doesnt
appeal to papi chulo but he loves the classic soft pieces.

ross on 2001-08-24 21:03 [#00025482]

the classical pieces are so beautiful

Can't it be a "shit hit"?

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-08-24 21:52 [#00025490]

Archrival: You got my hopes way up for Druqks, if i'm let
down I come to your house and kill you, you can't live that
far from me....

evolume from seattle on 2001-08-24 22:30 [#00025495]

yeah and the pictures of him in the black veil with the
eyeliner and pentagram necklace is sooo 90's

Archrival from NY on 2001-08-24 22:39 [#00025496]

:( Arrrghh dont kill me ......

Xanatos, I feel pretty calm....I know you will LOVE It,
cross my heart.

If you like Aphex Twin....im pretty safe.

Mary Poorcredit on 2001-08-24 22:48 [#00025498]

My favorite is the one with him shouting, "Selecta!"
repeatedly. I think it's called Fnanc Btwtyeovil.
