well, yeah... the new coalition party (the LPF) were pretty much all the time fighting amongst themselves instead of doing their job.
also, there were two minister from that same party who couldn't stand each other and were fighting over who should be vice-president...
i know it's hard for a inexperienced party and their inexperienced ministers to do exactly the right thing for the job, but this were just plain old intrigues, quarrels, scandals etcetc. very immature.
tuesday evening/wednesday morning the other two coalition parties "pulled the plug".

Yep, this is the best thing that happened to the netherlands in a long time... imagine how much worse things could have been if the LPF could have stayed for the normal 4 years :-o I'm glad they collapsed now... fucking idiots.
I hope the leftwing-parties will get many votes this time in january :-) And i'm pretty confident the LPF will dissapear almost completely. (i mean after the last year, who would vote for them again? In holland we have a saying: a donkey doesn't stub it's toe twice on the same rock ;-))

true, better to get rid of them now, then four years from now.
don't know about the lpf dissapearing completely, although i certainly hope so. heinsbroek will probably starting his own part (with wijnschenk dangling at his ass....)
we'll see....

oh i'm 100% sure the LPF will still be a party that you can vote on (and no doubt heinsbroek will start his own party as well)... but i just meant there is no way they're going to get so ridiculously many votes again this time. They'll be small and meaningless (i hope!)

well, don't underestimate the 2 coalition partners (CDA and VVD) - they were quick to engineer this break-up - they'll be the 2 biggest parties now, with the LPF brought down to a small party..

nonono :-p Now you sound just like some of those lpf-ministers!
You can think about the vvd and the cda what you want, but they did not - i repeat: they did not - cause this break-up! The lpf only have themselves to thank for that.
I know they are saying now that they just had all their problems fixed when minster Zalm "pulled the plug"... but do you really believe them? They've said many times before all their problems were solved.
If cda & vvd had given them another chance... i'm sure they would have had another crisis within a week!

well, they didn't cause the break up, but they sure did "pull the plug" (and rightly so). zalm said it himself that he decided tuesday evening that he didn't wanted to go on with this. during the debat wednesday balkenende couldn't deny that zalm and verhagen didn't cause the "pulling of the plug" (although he tried to...).
ofcourse, the breakup was bound to happen, this couldn't go on. i wouldn't be surprised if the lfp will have more crises in the near future. but verhagen and especially zalm gave up their confidence after tuesdays meeting of the lpf ministers. i think that's what qrter meant.

i voted sp last time. I agree the strongest with their ideas. But it's a shame they are "only" in the opposition. If i were to vote for the pvda (whose ideas i agree with for like 50%) they might actually be in a new coalition, and actually DO things...
sigh... it's always though to decide.
And uh...yeah, i can see how it was technically Zalm that pulled the plug. (i like how Mat Herben's first reaction was: we can always plug it back in :-p Those guys have no sense of realism)... my point was just that it was all the LPF's fault. Maybe i misunderstood qrter :-) It feels really strange anyway to have this conversation in english

I meant this is pretty convenient for cda and vvd. first everything gets blown up by Pim Fortuyn, the mainstream parties (read: cda + vvd) have to tolerate them. just wait on the side and watch them implode, then "pull the plug" and restart. now the LPF will be tiny and VVD + CDA will rule supreme.
don't get me wrong, LPF dug their own grave, Zalm and that fart Balkenende pushed them in.
thing I hate most about all the LPF partymembers now, is them saying that this wouldn't have happened if Fortuyn had still been here. if that is so, WHY DIDN'T YOU RESIGN IN THE FIRST PLACE? pff..

politics would be nice if the system would be different. if there is a good candidate, he/she has to do what the party asks of her. and at least in finland all the parties are basically the same, and just CLAIM to be different.

ofcourse it IS all very convenient for CDA & VVD (you can be sure they are secretly laughing about this behind closed doors).
But if the LPF would have acted like a normal political party, the CDA & VVD were willing to cooperate with them. I mean they took them quite seriously.
The lpf acted so stupid... here they were, the 2nd biggest party in the netherlands, and they actually had the chance to execute all of pim fortuyns ideas! I mean they basically had everything they ever could have asked for... and they blew it all by acting like a bunch of little children.
Ofcourse I'm personally glad they blew it all like that. But imagine how the LPF-voters must feel right now!

i don't think it's just as bad over here. There are quite big differences between the biggest dutch parties i think.
But aren't there even some small parties in finland who want to do everything differently?

mm. I'm skeptical about this.
thing is, I think the LPF would've disintergrated anyway WITH Fortuyn there. its the nature of the party and of Fortuyn.

hmh. the ones that try are dissed due to "excessive radicalism".
there is the green party but they are good for nothing. right and left are generally the same and the opposition just changes opinion all the time.
