Which record should I check out first? I know there are
some fans on this board, I think naaic has one of their
sleeves as his avatar... speak up! I've only heard the
song 'they removed all trace that anything had ever happened
here' but I really liked it... sort of sad and pastoral.
Opinions? Recommendations?

Gimme some more flesh baby! I'm working with bare bones
here.. What do you think of it? Perhaps an adjective or
two?

Cabbog: I you liked 'they removed all trace...' definitely
get Cold House, the album is amazing, all types of
styles....a little hip hop, glitch, post-rock, etc. The
whole album has that "sad and pastoral" sound to it, pretty
much everything Hood has put out sounds like that. Hood is
probably my favorite band, i can't recommend Cold House
enough!

Hood's two previous albums 'The Cycle of Days and Seasons'
and 'Rustic Houses Forlorn Valleys' are both really good as
well...less glitchy than 'Cold House' but the same
melancholic feel. Their earliest records are filled with
more low-fi rock type of stuff with BOC-like interludes.
Really give it a listen if you're interested.

check out their website: www.hoodmusic.net

Yeah, I was going to say that they remind me of BOC a bit.
Not so much in their musical style but in the images they
conjure up and the atmosphere they exude. Thanks for the
pointers naaic, I'll check out their site and make sure to
pick up 'Cold House' next chance I get.

The Remote Viewer

i try to mention this band all the time, but never get any
response about them. it's two former members of Hood, that
focus on idm...really, really good idm. they released a
record on city centre offices this year that is wonderful.
if you like Hood, Múm, Fennesz, CCO/Morr Music releases,
you'll love this!!

my advice: pick up everything by Hood and The Remote Viewer
you can find.

I like the name.
http://www.irva.org/
I'll have to check them out after Hood. Múm is okay, they
sound sort of like Ae's glass menagerie. Haven't heard any
of the others..

so, i had heard that why? and dose did something on this
hood album but i had the impression that they were some sort
of hard rock outfit so i never checked it out. after
hearing a couple tracks i'm getting cold house asap. LOVE
IT. are the albums as good?

hehe hard rock band, that's cute. couldn't be further from
the sound of cold house, though previous albums
have rocked out quite a fair amount!

some great mp3's over at hood music (official web site)
... look around and you'll find a link to even more mp3's.

their best material so far has been cold house, but
you can't go wrong picking up that album and their
retrospective (which contains hits and unreleased tracks
from before cold house).

sort thing I'd like.

Not to go too far off on a tangent, but: Buffalo Man, you
look good with hair.

yes, i got cold house last month.. and its one of the best
cd's i've bought all year

the track "you show no emotion at all"
is worth the price of the album alone..
the single of said track comes with a nice video too

other than those two releases, i've only heard the 'home is
where it hurts' ep and it was good, but not as good as cold
house..

also look into the band clue to kalo.. similar to hood, but
more mellow.

i have COLD HOUSE and it's one of the BEST CD's i've
purchased recently....maybe ever. every song is lush....and
different. it's never boring!

*is shocked i have a CD before Cabbog......do'h*

buy it, you'll like it even the packaging is cool!

My brow is naturally opressed so I'm always giving off the
impression that life is futile.. Sort of like that black
detective from CSI. I'll probably have to get botox by the
time I'm 14 but that's okay I guess - Bison Boy is a moody
thing so the furrowed look accents his character. Speaking
of, I was actually planning on picking up Cold House next
time I goto Buffalo. There's a shop up there that probably
stocks it... If not, there's always a crate full of other
records begging to be bought.

"indie rock", most of the rest i can't be bothered with

rest in peace cabbog

Cold House is defintitly one of my better purchases of 2003.
I'm glad Cabbog started this thread, because I am itching to
check out more Hood albums. Maybe the Singles compilation
should tide me over?

i love hood to death!
'cold house' is by far their best, but 'The Cycle of Days
and Seasons'
and 'Rustic Houses Forlorn Valleys' are awesome too.

I've got the 'here i go again..' cd from the remote viewer
too, and it's great. too bad i can't find their other stuff.
