Now, the 3rd. I just like the idea that they are trapped in
the middle of nowhere with NOTHING to defend themselves with
and they have to figure out what to do. Very primitive.

I think I will go watch it later, now that you've brought

 | Being an old fuck I remember when the first one was released. The world at large had never seen Giger's work,
had no idea that such things could even be imagined. Words
cannot do justice to the emotions that movie conjured up.
The studio did a great job of suppressing pictures from the
movie and gosh, was it ever a mindfuck. It was a
soul-blackening trip into a hell dimension. Wow. Fuck wow.

By the time James Cameron's sequel came out the world was
glutted with Giger and the aliens were about as scary and
mind altering as rubber halloween bats.

 | I'm in doubt as to which of the 3 alien movies is the best. Resurrection was a raping of the alien saga, therefor I
don't even count that movie as part of the alien saga. It
ends with nr3 for me. I think 2 is underrated when it comes
to acting, visuals, story and suspense. I'd go for the 2nd
one followed closely by the first

 | i especially liked it because of how it develops the relationships between characters (ripley and cole (only when
they realize that neither of them are truly human do they
start to connect), ripley and the alien queen (this is the
creepiest thing of all to me because she is so torn between
being with the aliens or with the humans))...I also like
this one because the manifestation of the alien character
through ripley let's us truly know the nature of these
beasts and allows us to relate to it in a primal way

 amen

 | the first one is the best.
nr2 is good - especially the queen. the aliens do look like
men in rubber suits though. and how the eggs open looks just
 crap, compared to 1.

nr3 seems minimalist: its the minimalism of someone
who wants people to think he's doing something minimalistic
 - its videoclip minimalism.

imo nr1 is truely minimalistic, terse in its outlook.
incredible setdesign, incredible buildup of tension, great
feeling for textures of sounds (the scene with Harry Dean
Stantons character looking for the alien, when he stops in a
large hangar with a clinking bunch of chains, and stands
under a dripping stream of water - the sound of the water
dropping on his cap and then on his face - YES!), the rhythm
of the scenes (see above sample), the ferocious typing of
Weaver/Ripley on the mother-console, the beautiful music and
soundeffects (just got the Alien trilogy cd, with 7 nrs from
nr1), the acting - Ian Holm is wonderful as Ash, the
android, Weaver ofcourse, John Hurts shortlived role..

nr4 is good, but a big problem is it falls out of the
psychologically nicer feeling trilogy-idea. sounds stupid,
think it does have something to do with it.
also, theres nothing really new here.
I liked it though - a little too much gore for my tastes
 (nr1 hardly shows us anything).

nice anecdote from nr1: when they came to filming the
chestburster scene, Scott rehearsed it, but with just a
little blood. on the actual shoot he used buckets,
unanounced. the shock you see on the actors' faces is quite
 geniune.. :)

 | the first 3 made hard work of trying to create a realistic and believable future environment. resurrection has a comic
book style approach, which is totally and absolutely not
done for this series. This style is fine for a total crap
movie like for instance the fifth element, but not for the
alien series, which has the alien put some sort of primal
fear into the subconscious. So not only the way everything
looks is ridiculous but also the police academy style humor
is repulsing and I don't even think I need to mention the
sudden "jurassic park raptor" type of behaviour we get to
see from the aliens. Or how about an alien queen labouring
to give birth in a human fashion to the most laughable of
alien/human hybrids? I could go on and on.

why does the alien hybrid have to feed on human brains

 | I do like Alien 4, but it kinda disturbed me, because the first time i watched it was on a plane, and our food had
just been served, and the Alien Hybrid had just been born
and smashed the mother's jaw off

I changed the channel and went back on to the bit where the
Alien is being sucked through the tiny hole. Made me sad,
especially the look on the Alien's face when it was trying
 to reach out to Ripley

But i must say the best are Alien, Aliens and perhaps Alien
4 (but only some bits out of it)

The black guy in it looks like Maxim out of Prodigy

 | *bump*
i made a list of things that suck about alien3 and alien 4
and have definatively shown that alien 3 is better based on
lack of sucky things, recognizing that both have redeeming
features which i will not mention directly.

i prefer 3 to 4. while the underwater scene in 4 is quite
 lush.
 here's what sux about 4:
 1. the basketball scene
 2. the 'cute' human/alien hybrid complete with wiggling
 nose
 3. the end line 'you just saved the earth'
 4. the gratutitous ass shot (the ass itself was quite nice,
 just out of place)
 5. ron pearlman's shoddy acting (plays a great dummy, not a
 convincing tough-guy)
 6. winona's mole
 7. bargaining in hard american currency
 8. D.N.A. based memory retention
 9. overuse of acid blood as if it were MacGuyver's swiss
 army knife.
 10. no sense of panic, present in all 3 pevious films.

 here's what sux about 3:
 1. much of the alien effects.
 2. mostly shoddy editing (except for the C.S. Dutton eulogy
 scene)
 3. Hicks getting killed

based on these lists, alien 3 is better
 (in my opinon of course)

feel free to add to either of these lists.

 | brad douriff was the only good thing in Alien:Rape-urrection, that general should have been put to
sleep before the shooting of the film began.
Alien 3 had too much English accent in it.
Seemed like the whole prison was from England or maybe it
was meant to be the second coming of australia, in which
case it would be a nice hint at australia's past.

 | but the story is kind of repetative of the earlier movies and all in all, not very surprising.

 | I think the first two are definitly the strongest, and ahhahh yes gigers work was so good that "In 1980, he
received the Academy Award for "Best Achievement for
Visual Effects" for his designs of the film's title creature
 and its otherworldly environment."
I couldn't get over his artwork collecting every book I
could possibly find about the guy and even started doing
my own airbrushing inspired by the legend himself!
