at risk of showing my ignorance...
I have not used an mp4. does anyone know about them.

I ask because the Squarepusher samples at Warp are offered
in mp3 and mp4.

am I behind the times?

I knew what it stood for, I just didn't know if I'm going to
have to update my mp3 players, encoder/decoder, ripper,
burning software, etc. What will happed to the thousands of
mp3s I have. Will they be outdated soon?

heh i can't say it, that mpeg4 or "SAOL" is not like usually
a audio format, it's more a programm language, weird..
nah i think it takes a long time before you can listen to
mp4 at home ..

cool... I read a little.
maybe I shouldn't feel threatened by them.
I guess mp4 cannot stop my plans to rule the world after
all.

I love the mp3pro codec. Everything I rip from cd I rip at
96kbps mp3pro format. Sounds Damn good at that quality...

Cool Edit Pro v2 has mp3pro, and I was gonna save my tracks
like that, but it only went up to 96kps

96 is supposed to equal to 192 of a regular mp3...

If you're looking for a more advanced music codec than mp3,
take a look at ogg vorbis. It's totally free.

Most of the people I know with "golden ears" wouldn't touch
mp3pro with a 10' bargepole (although their codec of choice
is usually musepack, which is not free either.)
