I've just realised how much i hate listening to IDM in headphones. I just can't stand it, unless i really want to concentrate on it. But most of the time i'm doing other stuff on my computer, and can't concentrate on anything else if i'm using headphones. After a while it just feels like beats pounding into my ears, which gets fscking annoying. But with speakers i really enjoy it, like alot.
Anyone else have this problem with IDM or related genres, or prefer headphones over speakers?

Yeah, because my headphones hurt my ears if i leave them on for ages, i think is why i've been turned off a bit. Oh well, time to save up for some new speakers then.

I've got lots of big speakers. I just don't have anything to power them sufficiently. I need 500watts or more to provide proper power, and things that can do that are too expensive. And so I've decided to deal with less power. It's still better than headphones...

i totally disagree. i prefer braindance on headphones, rather than speakers. You get to hear everything in the song and you get to play as loud as you want. I live in a flat, so there....
I recommend you to get the Sony MDR-605LP. They're really comfortable to wear and the sound is awesome.
IDM wasn't probably meant for you anyway....

Hedphones 4 sho...
These artists put hella lotta work into the spatial shit. To trully understand it all, I think you need to use hedphones.
This is just my opinion. I know I write my shit to be listened to in hedphones.

That's why u need speakers. Headphones r not stereo, they're binaural!!

stuff with a lot of detailed panning is better in headphones unless you have nice speakers set apart just right to create the same panning effect. The one thing that could have made the richard d james album better was panning. that albums really good on speakers though since it doesn't do any detailed panning, it's all normal in the center.

with headphones u just change level when paning. true stereo perception needs speakers. that way, sound hits your ears from L speaker at different times (ms), and same for R.
I mean: phones is one source to one ear (x2) and speakers is one source to two ears (x2).
get it??

What's that supposed to mean?
Anyway, i think it's only because my headphones suck. I just tried with other genres like metal and that, and i can't stand any music for a long period of time through these headphones. And they fucking hurt my ears after a while.
I'll put those Sony MDR-605LP headphones on my wishlist, and buy them once i get some spare money.

i just like beats pounding my ears, that's all. no offense-
get yourself some nice headphones. I bought the mdr-v700DJ because they were the best headphones soundwise. BUT, the tight fit on them, probably would make my head look like a rectangle. So i changed them.

Yeah same. But going through torture to listen to it kinda sucks. The ones i just bought were cheap Altec Lansing ones, but they are way to tight.

Drukqs sounds sooo much better with a nice woofer. I'm sorry, earphones just don't deliver that bass.

If you've got a good pair of headphones, it can sound really good. But, still, Speakers will always have better bass simply because of the larger size of the woofers. (or tweeters...whatever)
My Sony MDR-7506s are really nice headphones though, surprisingly pounding bass.

I can't stand headphones, I use them only when necessary. I especially can't stand AUTECHRE in headphones, for some reason.
Headphones are too claustrophobic... the music is in your head and nowhere else, so annoying. Speakers put it all around you, in your environment.

It's lush playing driving games and you actually "feel" the gravel or tarmac :)
Ophecks: Yeah, Autechre on headphones is too painful. That sort of music definately needs speakers to give your ears some space...

Like blast some Vsnares or Ae to my head!
Its kinda self-mutilation I guess :-/

I like headphones 'cause I like to pay close attention to the details and various elements in the track. speakers are great, too though, for really feeling the music.
