Has mister Richard been selling enough records to be rich
or is he living out of a medium salary?

He makes all his money from selling software/hardware he
made and patented to large companies.

That's what he told my mate, anyway.

why?
Artist don't make that much money yunno, only if they're
really succesfull. And you can't say Richard isn't exactly
climbing the charts is he...?

after drukqs i think he has a famous live. the whole afx hip
came with drukqs, too late... i mean it's not usual that
artist has several pseudo's, but it seems to be a strategy
for earning more money ...

I think he makes alot of money from live shows/DJing and
remixing + he gets payed everytime one of his tracks apear
in a comercial or movie.
And he is the biggest selling EEM artist isn't he?

Easily.

The only reason warp records is so big is because they live
off his releases.

....and its nothing to do with seminal releases by other
artists on the label in the early 90's........?

Aphex just added to their success, he didn't make them

Well he bought a bank and co-owns a record label,so he must
be-I think hes very rich, the windowlicker vid. cost around
£150,000 they dont spend that unless they have a lot of
money, and will get a shit load back.
But then again he may still pick up his Giro.

Agreed, Ben. With his large discography he must be doing
pretty fine. People buy his stuff all the time. Not just the
latest releases.

True, but hes the guy that is keeping them in the black at
the moment.

I doubt they are still running off LFO and nightmares on wax
albums.

i read that he got 100.000$ for one track that he sold to
some company in US
and he bought a building in london, which probably wasn't
cheap

well, rich is hard to define, but being able to retire in
your twenties should qualify: rumour has it the pirelli and
orange adverts netted him six figure sums each: if not rich
he is certainly good for a few drinks

"I doubt they are still running off LFO and nightmares on
wax
albums."

Actually, I think the level of consistent respect both these
artists get means they're still getting a constant flow of
money (even if its not huge). This is as new people are
introduced to the scene and these are namedropped. I think
Carboot Soul was probably one of their biggest sellers (?),
and yet thats not new.

Anyway, I don't see Warp as one main artist being Aphex,
warp is a collective of artists, each successful in their
own right, whether that's monetary or otherwise. I'd say
that boards more than aphex will/have more commercial
success since i've seem them everywhere, and when you're
getting rave reviews by big papers like Sunday Times you
gotta know they're onto something big. Boards have a much
broader appeal and there's a much wider oppurtunity for
licencing for adverts etc (BMW anyone?), whereas aphex would
be/is popular with the younger people.

Artists on Warp won't be hugely successful in the
mainstream, but they've found enough of a niche way back in
the early 90's to be firmly established now.

As for Aphex's wealth, I wouldn't like to speculate on an
exact sum but he'll be a millionaire. Also, I can only see
this expanding with the skater/alternative culture catching
onto it.

ben's right, even if they're not so popular now they still
sold a ton of albums, a lot more than the flavors of the
month at warp (not that those albums aren't great as well).
the new NoW album hasn't come out yet, you don't know that
it won't sell. as for lfo, i dunno when his album's coming
out but i wouldn't pity him, he has lots of money and his
music keeps getting better and better (although of course
different from his old stuff).

he makes a lot more money than the average musician. read
this...

http://www.arancidamoeba.com/mrr/problemwithmusic.html

...and then consider that richard's cut is not split among
bandmates, managers or producers and he doesn't owe the
label for studio time.

he made lots of cash from licensing a choon to pirelli, as
well as virgin. aphex isn't a band, so there's nobody to
split the loot with.

Elephant & castle is a shitty shopping centre...
and Walworth (to the south) is a ghetto.

But up the Kennington Road (west of there) there are some
huge 4 storey Edwardian/Victorian pads which must be
£450,000 a pop.

he aint dumb :)

A but does the twin really give a toss about living in the
lap of luxury as far as living quarters are concerned ?
Personally I can't see Richie in an edwardian mansion. I see
him living in a fucking tip. A chaotic mess of junk and
cables ! :)
